Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir and vintage opener Rohit Sharma recently shared a light-hearted moment amid the intensity of India’s ongoing home ODI series against New Zealand. Such rare moments of levity often reveal the camaraderie and ease that exist behind the scenes of elite competition, with this particular lighter side coming to the fore ahead of the series-deciding third ODI between the two sides.

In a video circulating on social media, Gambhir as well as Rohit Sharma along with legendary all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja all bonded over an unknown incident while making their way into the ground. The incident reportedly occurred at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, i.e., the venue of the second ODI of the three-match series.

Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma bond amid intense series

On Saturday, January 17; a 28-second-long video circulated on social media where the Indian team can be seen making its way up the stairs. At one stage of the video, former Indian captain and legendary opener Rohit Sharma took a brief pause to watch something downstairs.

Several of his teammates also joined him out of curiosity, with head coach Gautam Gambhir and fellow senior pro Ravindra Jadeja laughingly discussing the moment as the trio shared a relaxed exchange away from the pressures of the contest.

The latest interaction between Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma also seemingly put an end to a possible rift between the two dynamic Indian cricketing personalities. The rumours of the rift stemmed among Indian cricket fans online after former batter Manoj Tiwary had claimed that Gambhir had some kind of influence behind the captaincy sacking of Sharma.

India faces New Zealand in decider

Rohit Sharma has been in splendid touch with the bat off late, having registered a match-winning century against Australia at the SCG back in October last year. The legendary opener also plundered two half-centuries against South Africa at home. However, Rohit Sharma is yet to notch up a notable innings in India’s ongoing ODI series against New Zealand.

Under the leadership of new captain Shubman Gill, Team India won the first ODI of the series, riding on Virat Kohli’s sublime 93-run knock from 91 balls as the hosts made lightwork of New Zealand’s 300-run total.

The visitors responded back strongly with a commanding win in the second ODI to level the series. Daryl Mitchell unleashed a cracking century in the game to tender KL Rahul’s rescue act in vain.

The third ODI of the three-match between the two sides went underwent today at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. Prior to the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to field first.

Comeback man and ace paceman Arshdeep Singh struck in the first over of the game with the wicket of New Zealand opener Henry Nicholls. Harshit Rana also toppled Devon Conway in the following over, as the visitors lost both their openers for just five on the board to concede early advantage to the Indian team.
