The Manchester Originals franchise has been rebranded to the Manchester Super Giants (MSG) after the India-based RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group acquired major stakes in the English team ahead of The Hundred 2026 season. The rebranding puts the Manchester-based franchise now in line with sister teams like the Lucknow Super Giants (IPL) and the Durban’s Super Giants (SA20).
The new name and logo mark a clear shift in identity for the Manchester-based franchise, aligning it more closely with the Super Giants brand while signalling a fresh chapter ahead of The Hundred 2026 season. However, this sudden and drastic overhaul has seemingly not gone down well with the loyal fanbase of the Manchester Originals.
Jos Buttler reacts to Manchester Super Giants logo
The new logo of the Manchester Super Giants franchise has been overtly criticised by a legion of cricket fans on social media, especially by long-time Manchester Originals supporters who feel the rebrand has diluted the team’s original identity. In particular, fans have also taken aim at the elephant motif featured in the logo, with several online users questioning its relevance to England, let alone Manchester.
In a recent video shared by the Manchester Super Giants franchise on social media, team veteran Jos Buttler also reacted to the new logo, offering measured praise while his hesitant delivery did little to dispel fans’ perception of an awkward endorsement.

Reacting to the logo, Jos Buttler said, “Wow, it’s different, but I like it. Yeah, elephants are amazing animals. Spent a bit of time in South Africa and on safari, actually, and they’re incredibly graceful animals, incredibly big, strong, which I hope our team will be, which is cool. And yeah, the wings as well, which is nice. We’re going to take flight as a team, obviously, aren’t we and get off to a flying start, fly through the season, win lots of games of cricket in very impressive styles.”
Meg Lanning, Smriti Mandhana react similarly
Later in the same video, Manchester Super Giants senior women players Smriti Mandhana and Meg Lanning also gave a similar assessment to the team’s new logo, praising its symbolism and intent while their carefully chosen words suggested a conscious effort to stay diplomatic amid the ongoing fan backlash.
Smriti Mandhana said, “The elephant shows a very powerful message. It’s a very strong character and of course, the wing is also a very powerful and strong way.”
Praising the logo, former Australian captain and legendary batter Meg Lanning stated, “I think they really stand out nicely and the crown on top is a really good sign. Hopefully, that means that we’re going to be finishing on top at the end of the tournament.”
For a change, ace English spinner Sophie Ecclestone struck a notably more upbeat tone, offering unreserved praise for the logo and appearing genuinely comfortable with the franchise’s new visual identity.
She said, “I feel like Supergiants speaks for itself. It’s a massive brand and it’s massive logo. So the people who have played for this franchise are big names and I’m very happy to be one of them. So yeah, I’m really excited to be a part of them and I love elephants. So I’m really excited for for the brand to be that and yeah, I think it’s cool as well.”
Nonetheless, with a new logo and a new name, coupled with some fresh recruits, the Manchester Super Giants will be aiming to end the franchise’s long wait for a maiden title in The Hundred.
