How many batters have the audacity to smack Varun Chakravarthy for a no-look six? That is exactly what South African batter, Dewald Brevis, did to the Indian spinner in the high-octane T20 World Cup Super 8 match. The Proteas were in trouble batting first, but Brevis showcased his class against a solid Indian attack in Ahmedabad.

South Africa opted to bat first, and Aiden Markram instantly regretted the decision as the side lost three early wickets. Quinton de Kock was the first to go back as Jasprit Bumrah castled his stumps with a pearler. Markram was the next to follow as Arshdeep Singh got the prized wicket.

When Ryan Rickelton departed, South Africa looked in dire need of a partnership, and this is when Brevis joined forces with David Miller, and took the Indian attack down.

Brevis smashes no-look six to stun India's best bowler

The pair had a simple plan: target Varun Chakravarthy, and don’t allow him to settle against them. David Miller took him down, and it was followed by a Brevis special as he smacked him for a sumptuous six straight down the ground.

In the 9th over of the match, Chakravarthy bowled a tossed-up ball on the middle-stump as Brevis was up for the challenge. He cleared his front leg, connected from the sweet spot of the bat, and slammed him downtown for a huge hit. The batter didn’t look at the ball as aura flowed through his follow-through.

The South African batter is a master of the no-look six, and he displayed one against India’s best spin-bowler, and that too in a pressure situation.

Brevis gave wings to South African innings

After losing three early wickets, South Africa needed a saviour, and they got one in the form of Miller, and Brevis. The left-right combination worked wonders for the side as the team accelerated and slammed the Indian attack to all corners of the stadium.

The right-handed batter started slowly, but once he got his eyes in, there was no looking back. While Miller was going strong from one end, Brevis started the attack from the other end, and suddenly the run-rate climbed over 9.

The batter managed to score a quick-fire 45 off 29, with a strike rate of 155. By the time Brevis departed, South Africa had reached 117/4.

Brevis saved his best for India

Touted as “Baby AB” for showcasing similarities with AB De Villiers, Brevis came into this World Cup on the back of a lot of promise, but that was never fulfilled as he struggled to score big in the group stage contests.

Against Canada, he was dismissed for a run-a-ball 6, and it was followed by a 19-ball 23 against the Afghanistan side.

He then scored 21 off 17 against New Zealand, before ending the group stage with a quick-fire 36 off 25 against the UAE. However, he saved his best for the Indian side as Brevis took them down and played a knock that could potentially win them the game.
