A freak incident took place in the Cricket World Cup League 2 match between Nepal and Canada. As the teams look to climb up the points table, middle-order bat Basir Ahmad got stumped comically, hampering Nepal's chances to win.

The Asians faced a close loss, falling short by 24 runs, worsening their chances to potentially reach the World Cup 2027. In the bottom-of-the-table clash, Nepal needed to win at Al Amerat Cricket Ground to potentially go up a place in the closing stages of the campaign.

The said incident happened at the 29.2 over mark, when Basir Ahmad looked to take on his positive match-up. The left-arm orthodox spinner Sukhjinder Singh got the better of the batter with pace on an arm-ball at the fullish length just outside the off stump.

Ahmad, who could have played the ball on front foot, went back and tried to pull him across the line but completely missed the ball. Basir Ahmad lost track of the ball and thought the wicketkeeper missed it and tried to sneak in a single as a bye. However, the keeper took a second but grabbed the ball and dislodged the bails.

Ahmad was dismissed for 6 off 13, and Nepal were unable to recover and lost the match.

Nepal to miss World Cup Qualifiers?

The ending stages of the Cricket World Cup League 2 decide which teams will move in the further stages of the World Cup qualifiers. However, Nepal — with 28 points — are far off from potentially playing the final phase of the Qualifiers.

They are 7th on the 8-team points table, with 28 points in 35 matches. Despite doing well at the T20 World Cup earlier this year, their performances have not been at the same level in the ODIs.

Only the top-4 teams in the CWC League 2 move ahead on the road to the World Cup. They only have one match remaining against Oman, and a win would only take them one place above their current position in the table. The team below them, UAE, are notably in a spot of bother and could lose their ODI status.
