The tournament has officially moved to the Caribbean as part of a new partnership between Cricket Canada and Cricket West Indies.The Canadian franchise tournament has previously seen legends like Chris Gayle and Yuvraj Singh take part in it and will return for the first time since its 2024 season, when Toronto Nationals won the title.Why is GT20 Canada relocated to the Caribbean?Eight years after the first edition, GT20 Canada will be played in a different country, months after the national team took part in their second ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.As announced by both Canada and West Indies boards on September 25, GT20 Canada 2026 will be played in the Caribbean for a solitary season and will move back to its original base in 2027.With this, the two boards will look to strengthen their cricketing relations. This will change for 2026, and the tournament will be played between October and November.As revealed in the official press release, the GT20 Canada 2026 edition will take place in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, marking the tournament’s first season away from Canada. This means the GT20 2026 matches will be played at the Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown.Where were the previous GT20 Canada seasons played?Ahead of the 2026 season, all four previous seasons since 2018 were primarily played in Canada. All four seasons saw a different champion, starting with the legendary Chris Gayle’s Vancouver Knights in the inaugural edition.Winnipeg Hawks, Montreal Tigers and Toronto Nationals won the subsequent seasons. From 2020 to 2022, it wasn’t played — firstly due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, followed by a failed attempt to organise it in Kuala Lumpur in 2021 and yet another failed attempt to make a return in 2022.The 2025 tournament did not take place after Cricket Canada terminated its agreement with league operator, Bombay Sports in 2025.
