Virender Sehwag Surprises MS Dhoni With Big Message On CSK Star's Birthday

July 7 is the birthday of India's one of the most successful captains and a Chennai Super Kings great, MS Dhoni, who fans wanted to see play throughout the 2026 Indian Premier League season. 

Dhoni, who has been out of cricketing action since the IPL 2025, turned 45 years old, and his former India teammate Virender Sehwag has now posted a heartfelt appreciation message for MS Dhoni while also congratulating and wishing him on his birthday. 

Although Sehwag and Dhoni had a bittersweet relationship during their professional careers, the recent social media posts have now cleared the air between the two.

The Bitter-Sweet Relation Between Dhoni And Sehwag

For the unaware, MS Dhoni and Virender Sehwag's relationship emerged during a vital period of Indian cricket's golden era. During his captaincy, Dhoni brought in strict fielding and fitness standards, which led to the snub of many senior players, including Sehwag. 

During several bilateral series in 2007 and 2008, Sehwag was dropped from the squad because of the rotation policy and the fitness standards that Virender might have failed to follow. 

However, it is also important to note that both players have repeatedly dismissed the idea of a bitter rivalry. Dhoni has praised Sehwag's aggressive batting style, and Sehwag too has gone on record to state that the relationship between them was good.

Virender Sehwag Drops Special Post For Dhoni

Years later, taking to his official Instagram handle, Sehwag posted a very long paragraph and a series of photos of Dhoni and himself, clicked during their time playing cricket for India as well as during their time in the IPL with the Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings franchises. 

While wishing Mahi, Sehwag mentioned the Dhoni Waterfall, symbolising the waterfall as the personality that MS Dhoni defines both on and off the field. 

"Kerala ke Palakkad mein, ek jungle ke andar, ek waterfall hai jiska naam hai -Dhoni. Koi seedha nahi pahunch sakta. Rasta mushkil hai thoda.Guide chahiye. Teen ghante chalke jaao tab dikhta hai. Aur jab dikhta hai? Upar se bilkul shant. Andar se aag. Surface smooth, lekin kareeb jao toh pata chalta hai kitna powerful hai. 

Kerala Forest Department ne iske saath ek rule banaya hai -“Paani dikhta calm hai. Hai nahi.” Mujhe nahi pata yeh rule waterfall ke liye tha ya No. 7 ke liye. Aur yeh jagah ,yeh Dhoni Kerala mein tab se hai jab Mahendra Singh Dhoni paida bhi nahi hua tha," Sehwag wrote under his post.

"Jaise nature ko pehle se pata tha. Koi aayega. Aisa hi hoga. Aise hi milega , mushkil raaste ke baad, bilkul unexpected jagah pe. Aur ek baar jo mil gaya toh bhoolna mushkil hai," Virender Sehwag concluded.

The post was made at around 1 PM IST on July 7, and within hours, it had reached 342K likes, with commenters showering praise and love for the duo as Sehwag didn't mince his words in praising the Indian maestro. 

No Reply From Dhoni Yet

It is also important to mention that Dhoni still hasn't replied to the post on Instagram. Incidentally, Dhoni is not a very active user of social media, or Instagram in particular, and hence, that might be the reason for the delay in replying to Sehwag.

Dhoni's Legacy And Time Spent With Sehwag

While Gautam Gambhir has the highest number of partnership runs with Virender Sehwag, with a massive 5,131 runs from 117 matches, MS Dhoni too got opportunities to pair up with the explosive Indian opener across formats. 

The duo scored 824 runs from 18 innings, averaging 48.47. As Dhoni turned 45, he has very little left to accomplish in the world of cricket, having won all three white-ball ICC trophies, including the T20 World Cup 2007, the ODI World Cup 2011, and the Champions Trophy 2013. 

With 500 international games under his belt and more than 16,000 international runs, Dhoni is currently one of the living legends of Indian cricket, whom Sehwag admired in his social media post.
