Tim David, who has an experience of playing for ODI matches and 20 List A matches, has put his name forward to get a place in Australia’s World Cup 2027 squad. David’s ambitions has been confirmed by Tasmania coach Jeff Vaughan.

The development came after Tasmania added David in their One-Day Cup squad. For the starters, One-Day Cup is Australia’s premier 50-over domestic competition.

Freelancer Tim David Set To Grab Cricket Australia's Attention

Born in Singapore, David, one of Australia’s most destructive T20I batters of all time, is a very popular name across global T20 leagues.

He is now all set to play for Tasmania in Match 11 of One-Day Cup against Victoria at Bellerive Oval, Hobart. The match is scheduled to get underway at 5 AM IST on Saturday (October 24).

"We're fortunate [that] the next couple of games, it does align with his schedule from a franchise perspective. He (David) outwardly says how much he loves playing his cricket in Tasmania and to play another game for Tasmania he's really excited for as well," Vaughan was quoted as saying by Cricinfo.

"But undoubtedly, there's another part of that with a 50-over World Cup around the corner. He wants to make himself available for that. He wants to keep playing in this format, learn it, be good at it, and then make it possible for the Australians to select him in that format as well. So yeah, he's looking forward to it," he added.

Tim David's ODI Numbers

Tim David has so much to improve in ODIs, if given the opportunity. He has played four matches so far, and managed only 45 runs at a strike rate of 84.90.

His last ODI match came in Johannesburg when Australia met South Africa in September 2023 before the previous edition’s ODI World Cup.

In List A, David has impressive numbers, having made 790 runs across 18 innings at an average of 60.76. He also has a brilliant strike rate of 120.06.

Needless to say, if he gets himself ready for 50-over cricket once again, it will be a huge boost for Australia before World Cup 2027.
