As Shubman Gill has been snubbed from the T20I squad for the upcoming series and the T20 World Cup, the Indian batter is likely to feature in the upcoming game of the Ranji Trophy. Along with Gill, another veteran Indian player will feature in the upcoming match of the marquee tournament.
Shubman Gill set to light up Ranji Trophy
After a brief break in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26, the prestigious domestic red-ball tournament is coming back to spread the unreal thrills in the longest format. With only two matches left for each team, the race for knockout spots has intensified, raising the stakes sky-high. Ahead of stepping into the upcoming game, Punjab is set to get a massive boost.
After ending the ODI series against New Zealand with a heartbreaking defeat, Shubman Gill has no international assignment in the near future. According to a Cricbuzz report, the Indian star is set to turn his focus to domestic cricket and is likely to link up with Punjab for their upcoming clash against Saurashtra.
In the ongoing season of the marquee tournament, Gill has not played any game, and if he plays the upcoming match, that will be his first appearance in this season. With the stakes already sky-high, an official confirmation on the development is still awaited.
Ravindra Jadeja eyes the same route
Along with the Indian Test skipper, veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is set to follow the same path. As reported by Cricbuzz, Jadeja is set to play the next match for Saurashtra against Punjab. The development reportedly emerged shortly after India’s disappointing defeat to New Zealand last night.
In the ongoing season, Jadeja has featured for Saurashtra in the clash against Madhya Pradesh. Batting first, he chipped in with a 36 off 62 balls, but had a rare off-day with the ball, going wicketless while conceding 78 runs in 28 overs in the first innings.
Apart from the next match, Saurashtra and Punjab will play another league stage match against Chandigarh and Karnataka. Their participation in those games is under the covers now.
Jadeja under the scanner as Gill wraps up a lukewarm series
The recently concluded three-match ODI series has been disappointing for the Indian side, but it turned out to be more heartbreaking for Ravindra Jadeja. The veteran all-rounder endured a forgettable run, finishing the series without picking up a single wicket.
Even though he struggled with the bat, he failed convert good starts into an impactful knock. He ended the series, scoring only 43 runs in three matches.
On the other hand, Team India’s ODI captain, Shubman Gill, started the series on a good note, but fans missed his spark. Starting the series with consecutive fifties, he suffered a big letdown in the decider, managing just 23 off 18 balls while chasing a stiff 338. Gill eventually wrapped up the series with a modest tally of 135 runs.
