The IPL 2026 clash between SRH and RCB turned into one of the most talked-about matches of the season on Friday, May 22.

Even though both teams had already qualified for the playoffs, the battle still carried huge importance. A top-two finish in the points table gives teams a much easier route to the final, so neither side wanted to slow down.

At the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, SRH delivered a powerful performance and defeated RCB by 55 runs. Still, the result was not the only thing grabbing attention. A tense moment involving Virat Kohli and Travis Head soon became the biggest talking point online.

Virat Kohli And Travis Head Had A Heated Exchange

The drama began during RCB’s chase. Kohli, who usually dominates in pressure games, struggled to find rhythm and scored only 15 runs from 11 balls before getting dismissed by Saikb Hussain near the end of the Powerplay.

During his short stay at the crease, Kohli appeared involved in a verbal exchange with SRH opener Travis Head. The exact reason behind the conversation remains unclear. Even so, cameras caught Kohli making gestures toward Head, seemingly asking him to bowl. He also appeared to mimic the “Impact Sub” signal.

This moment quickly sparked reactions among fans. Head has mainly played as a specialist batter for SRH this season and is often replaced while the team fields. As a result, Kohli’s gestures looked like a challenge from one aggressive competitor to another.

Travis Head Answered In Style

Later in the innings, Travis Head finally came on to bowl. By then, Virat Kohli had already returned to the pavilion. Even so, Head made an instant impact with the ball. The Australian batter dismissed RCB captain Rajat Patidar, who had scored a fighting 56 off 39 balls.

It is important to note that the situation became even more intense after the match ended. A viral clip showed Kohli warmly shaking hands with several SRH players, including captain Pat Cummins, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan.

However, many viewers noticed that Virat Kohli appeared to walk past Travis Head without acknowledging him during the customary handshake line. Soon after, Sunrisers Hyderabad added more fuel to the discussion with a post on X. The franchise wrote,

“Came, bowled and walked away with a wicket." Many supporters interpreted the message as a playful reference to Kohli’s earlier gestures toward Head.

Despite the defeat, RCB managed to protect their net run-rate by finishing on 200/4. That result kept them ahead of both Gujarat Titans and SRH on the table, even though all three teams remained level on points.

RCB will now face Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday. Meanwhile, SRH are set to play the Eliminator, although their opponent is yet to be confirmed. The race for the final playoff spot is also heating up. PBKS, KKR, and Delhi Capitals are all still fighting for the remaining place in the playoffs.
