Shubman Gill has arrived in Punjab to link up with the Fazilka Falcons squad for the ongoing Sher-E-Punjab T20 League 2026 season. The senior batter recently led the Indian cricket team to a comprehensive 2-0 Test series win on Sri Lankan soil.
On a trail of a prolific IPL 2026 season for the Gujarat Titans franchise this year, Gill will be aiming to sustain his newfound T20 proficiency to find his way back into the national T20I squad.
Shubman Gill begins training for Sher-E-Punjab T20 2026
Shubman Gill has linked up with the Fazilka Falcons squad in Punjab for the ongoing Sher-E-Punjab T20 League 2026 season. In a recent picture circulating on social media, the senior Indian batter can be spotted commencing his training for the T20 tournament.
It is worth noting that Gill is among the handful of Team India stars set to play the high-profile T20 league in Punjab, alongside fellow opening batter Abhishek Sharma and seasoned fast bowler Arshdeep Singh.

Gill has already missed three matches of the season for the Fazilka Falcons, with Sanvir Singh leading the side instead. In three games so far this tournament, the Falcons has secured just a solitary win at an expense of two defeats to be struggling at number five on the six-team Punjab T20 League 2026 points table.
Why Sher-E-Punjab T20 2026 is important for Shubman Gill
The Sher-E-Punjab T20 League 2026 season marks an important stint for Shubman Gill, considering the elegant top-order batter is still struggling to make his way back into the Indian T20I team.
Notably, Gill was India’s designated T20I opener alongside Abhishek Sharma in the latter half of last year. He was part of the team that lifted the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai, and secured away series win against Australia and a home series win against South Africa.
However, his underwhelming returns with the bat prompted the Indian selection committee to drop him from the squad in favour of fellow opener and explosive wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson.
As of now, Shubman Gill is yet to return to India’s T20I setup since playing the last of his 36 matches back in December 2025.
With Team India still settling in on a relatively revamped squad under new captain Shreyas Iyer and vice-captain Tilak Varma, the 27-year-old might raise a debate over his possible T20I return with a prolific Sher-E-Punjab 2026 season in Punjab.
