ODI World Cup 2027 is less than a year away, but Hardik Pandya’s fitness issues continue to be India’s biggest concern. The star all-rounder last featured in IPL 2026 and has been nursing a couple of injuries since then.

Hardik was set to return for Afghanistan ODIs, but the recent shin trouble kept him out of the Afghanistan series and even the recently concluded West Indies series at home. Fans were expecting Pandya to return for New Zealand ODIs, but much to everyone’s surprise, he is still at CoE and has yet to be given the green light by the doctors.

India Searching For Hardik Pandya Replacement

In the past couple of months, India have been struggling to find a right replacement for Hardik Pandya. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who is first in the pecking order, is himself struggling from injuries. The SRH all-rounder recently returned to action against West Indies and is yet to repay the faith shown in him.

Reddy scored 9 runs in the solitary ODI he played and took 1 wicket in 2 innings. Similarly, there are Washington Sundar and Suryansh Shedge, who have been pushed quickly into the senior team, but none has managed to replicate similar heroics as Hardik Pandya.

Sunil Gavaskar Urges Management To Stop Searching Next Hardik Pandya

In the latest events, India legend Sunil Gavaskar has jumped onto the bandwagon and urged the Indian team to stop their search for the next Hardik Pandya. The Little Master heaped massive praise on Pandya and called him irreplaceable.

Instead, Sunil Gavaskar urged the Gautam Gambhir-led management to go with a player of a different calibre.

“We sometimes get a little bit carried away with trying to find a replacement for Hardik Pandya. Hardik Pandya is irreplaceable. If you can’t find somebody of his calibre, then go with somebody who will do a slightly different job," Gavaskar said on JioStar.

Sunny G hailed Naman Dhir’s selection and cited him as an example. Notably, the MI all-rounder scored 38 runs in 4 innings, picking up 5 wickets.
