Ganguly is reported to take over as the franchise’s head coach after previously serving in several different capacities with the team. The change is part of a major restructuring of the Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027, with the franchise bringing together several prominent Indian and international names.Sourav Ganguly to add another chapter to his DC stintGanguly’s relationship with Delhi Capitals has evolved considerably over the years. His first major association with the franchise came in 2019, when he joined as a team advisor and mentor, working alongside head coach Ricky Ponting. During that season, DC reached the IPL playoffs for the first time since 2012. He left the franchise later that year after becoming BCCI president. Following the end of his tenure with the board, Ganguly returned to Delhi Capitals in January 2023 as Director of Cricket.In that role, he was involved across the franchise’s wider cricket operations, including the IPL, WPL and its overseas teams, Dubai Capitals and Pretoria Capitals. Now, according to Sportstar, he is set to take charge of the Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027 as the franchise’s head coach.Yuvraj Singh, Chaminda Vaas And Amit Mishra to Join New DC SetupThe Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027 is expected to feature several high-profile former players alongside Sourav Ganguly.Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh is set to join as an assistant coach, while also bringing his batting expertise to the group. Yuvraj, a two-time World Cup winner, has increasingly moved into coaching and mentoring roles since concluding his playing career.Former Sri Lanka fast bowler Chaminda Vaas is also set to become the franchise’s fast bowling coach. Vaas took 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets during his international career and has previously worked in coaching roles with Sri Lanka and franchise teams.Veteran India leg-spinner Amit Mishra has joined the Capitals’ camp and is expected to work as the spin bowling coach. Mishra is among the IPL’s most successful wicket-takers and brings extensive experience of Indian conditions and the tournament.Together, the group gives the Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027 a distinctly experienced look, with specialists covering leadership, batting, pace bowling and spin.Why Are Delhi Capitals Making A Massive Overhaul?The overhaul comes after two disappointing IPL seasons. The previous setup, led by head coach Hemang Badani and team director Venugopal Rao, could not take DC into the playoffs in either 2025 or 2026.There is also a structural reason behind the changes. Delhi Capitals’ co-owners, JSW Sports and GMR Group, operate the men’s IPL team in alternating two-year cycles. After GMR oversaw the 2025 and 2026 seasons, JSW is set to take control for 2027 and 2028.That transition has brought a fresh leadership group, with Sourav Ganguly at the centre of the Delhi Capitals coaching staff for IPL 2027.
