Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan's T20I comeback doors open [Source: AFP]Pakistan's newly appointed captain, Sahibzada Farhan, has kept Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan's T20I comeback doors open, saying the talismanic duo can return to the team at any time. Led by Farhan, Pakistan are set to face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, starting October 9, Friday. Ahead of the first T20I of the series, Sahibzada Farhan reckoned that Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan can still make a comeback to the side despite the PCB ignoring them in the shortest format. Babar, Rizwan can return to Pakistan's T20I setup at any time, says Sahibzada FarhanBabar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan had a torrid run in the three-match Test series in England, as the tourists were whitewashed by the home team. While Rizwan underwent a cybercrime investigation following his dismal performance in the series, Babar Azam lost his place in the T20I team, with Sahibzada Farhan replacing Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan's new captain in the format. The swashbuckling batter addressed the query with a straightforward answer, calling Babar and Rizwan two of the best players in the world and saying that they can re-enter the Pakistani T20I setup in the future. “Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are the best players in the world. Both can return to T20 cricket at any time," Sahibzada Farhan was quoted as saying by The Nation. Why were Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan dropped from Pakistan's T20I team?Former T20I captain Babar Azam had an abysmal campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. The stylish right-hander was slotted in the middle order and finished the tournament with 91 runs at a modest average of 22.75. His underwhelming performance in the showpiece event led to Babar's ouster from Pakistan's T20I team. On the other hand, Mohammad Rizwan found himself out of Pakistan's T20I side due to a sub-par scoring rate. Rizwan had a strike rate of 117.30 across 20 T20I innings in 2024 and was subsequently dropped from the team. Nevertheless, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan are Pakistan's top two run-getters in T20I cricket with 4596 and 3414 runs, respectively. If they perform in the domestic matches and global T20 leagues, they can certainly make their way back to the team.
