In a Group C clash on February 11, South Africa will face Afghanistan at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, at 11 AM (IST) at the T20 World Cup 2026.

The Proteas are coming into this match with a win in their tournament opener at the same venue against Canada, convincingly defeating them by 57 runs. Afghanistan faced New Zealand in their first match and were defeated by 5 wickets in Chennai, which makes it a crucial match for them.

South Africa vs Afghanistan Preview Match 13

The South African spirits are high after a fine preparation before the T20 World Cup, facing India across formats, followed by a competitive SA20 season and West Indies T20Is. Captain Aiden Markram looked in a great touch against Canada, scoring 59 off 32, followed by strong finishes from David Miller's 39* (23) and Tristan Stubbs' 34* (19).

The bowling department was led by a match-winning 4/31 from Lungi Ngidi and a 2/30 from Marco Jansen to give the team a huge boost in the net run rate before facing Afghanistan and New Zealand. A win over the Afghans would put them one foot in the Super 8 stage.

On the other hand, Afghanistan were not completely outplayed by the Kiwis. Gulbadin Naib was promoted to 3 and scored a 63 off 35, followed by multiple cameos to reach 182 runs at the Chepauk. Even Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who recently picked a hattrick picked a couple of quick wickets for his 2/31.

However, following the loss at the hands of the Blackcaps, it will be a must-win match for them against South Africa before they face the UAE and Canada.

Conclusion

The Group D dynamics suggest a thrilling contest coming up in Ahmedabad between the two sides that made it to the final and semi-final of the last edition, respectively. So far, Afghanistan have never gotten the better of South Africa in T20Is and would ideally want to change it to stay in contention for the Super Eights.

Considering the forms the previous head-to-head records, the Proteas have a clear edge over the Asians. Additionally, South Africa have spent enough time in India in the last few months, which means they are ready for whatever is in front of them. As things stand, they are well-placed to put one foot into the Super 8s with a win here.
