On Tuesday, April 14, Chennai Super Kings hosted Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk Stadium for IPL 2026 match 22. The visitors won the toss and asked the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side to bat first.
Interestingly, during the toss, both captains - Ruturaj Gaikwad and Ajinkya Rahane walked down the ground with black armbands around their sleeves. Usually, teams notify or explain the reason behind such moves. However, for the ongoing match, there was no such notification.

KKR And CSK Honour Legacy Of CD Gopinath
Notably, the two teams are honouring late CD Gopinath, who passed away last week at 96, as reported by Hindustan Times, which quoted a source from KKR. For the unversed, Gopinath was India's oldest living Test cricketer. Notably, the Indian veteran breathed his last on April 9, 2026.
CD Gopinath represented India in eight Test matches from 1951 to 1960, debuting impressively with 50 not out and 42 against England. Gopinath was part of India's historic first Test win against England in 1952 in Madras, a milestone that boosted the nation's cricketing confidence.

Shedding light on his domestic career, he captained Madras, amassed 4,259 runs in 60 first-class matches, and starred in their maiden Ranji Trophy victory in 1954-55 with a century in the final.
MI And RCB Honour Asha Bhosle’s Legacy
On Sunday, April 12, a tragedy hit the entertainment industry as legendary singer Asha Bhosle breathed her last at the age of 92. The veteran singer was hospitalised on Saturday and passed away on Sunday morning due to multiple organ failure.
The legend has sung over 12000 awards and won several accolades. After her demise, IPL also paid a tribute to her. For the unversed, Mumbai Indians and RCB players had also paid their respect to the late singer. The two teams also observed a minute-long silence before the game began.
CSK And KKR Match Story So Far
Talking about the ongoing match, Chennai, batting first, got off to a difficult start as Ruturaj Gaikwad fell prey to Vaibhav Arora. Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre stitched another crucial stand.
Samson scored 48 (32) and Mhatre amassed 38 (17). The duo brought the partnership back on track while Dewald Brevis and Sarfaraz Khan took on from there. At the time of writing this article, CSK are 164/4 and eyeing a 200+ run score on the board.
