Usman Tariq’s bowling action has once again hogged the spotlight, albeit this time during the 2026 Hundred season in England. Mere months after all-rounder Cameron Green objected the Pakistan cricketer’s spin bowling action, RCB champion Tim David has now openly accused the 28-year-old of “chucking”.

The incident occurred during match number four of The Hundred 2026 season in Birmingham, after Tariq deceived Tim David in a high-scoring game.

RCB champion batter Tim David has openly accused Usman Tariq of “chucking” the ball in The Hundred 2026 season. 

The incident occurred during the 55th ball of the Trent Rockets' innings during their unsuccessful chase of 215 runs at Edgbaston in Birmingham. 

Tariq delivered a full delivery outside off stump, with David nicking the ball towards Birmingham Phoenix wicketkeeper Joe Clarke behind the stumps.

After getting dismissed for just two runs off three balls, the RCB star and Trent Rockets’ Australian import seemed to suggest that Usman Tariq’s bowling action did not meet the laws of the game, and indirectly urged the umpires to call his dismissal delivery a ‘no ball’.

Incidentally, this was not the first instance where Usman Tariq’s bowling action was questioned by an Australian player. Apart from Tim David, fellow hard-hitting Australian batter Cameron Green also criticised the Pakistani cricketer earlier this year during a short white-ball series in Pakistan. 

Green even mockingly mimicked Tariq’s bowling action after getting dismissed by him in one of the games. 

The Pakistani spinner has also garnered much criticism online, particularly from Indian cricket fans. Moreover, during the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav deliberately bowled with a similar action at the nets in a bid to prepare his batters against Tariq’s controversial bowling style. 

It is worth noting that despite all the on-field criticism and off-field noise, Usman Tariq’s bowling action has been cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

What has Usman Tariq said about his bowling action?

Long before Tim David and Cameron Green raised their objections, the Pakistani spinner defended his bowling action after grabbing the unwanted spotlight in the PSL last year. 

While speaking on MYK Sports, the cricketer said, “My action is unique because my body dimensions are unique. My body frame is not like the common person. I do have two elbows in my arm. My arm bends naturally. I have got this tested and cleared. Everyone feels I bend my arms and all that. My bent arm is a biological issue.”

What makes Usman Tariq’s bowling action tricky for batters?

Usman Tariq’s bowling action has troubled several batters before. In his delivery stride, the cricketer tends to have a sudden, statue-like pause before bowling, which can disrupt the batters' rhythm and timing. 

Tariq also reads the batter’s feet during his pause in a bid to see their movement and to adjust his delivery accordingly. Moreover, his low and round-arm sling also creates varying levels of skid and bounce. 

Apart from the Pakistani spinner, former Indian all-rounder Kedar Jadhav also held a similar controversial bowling action, albeit with little-to-no pause in his stride. 

However, fellow former spinners like Ravichandran Ashwin, Suresh Raina and Mohammad Hafeez also occasionally experimented with their bowling action in a similar manner.
