Royal Challengers Bengaluru have moved closer to securing the top-two spot in IPL 2026 after the RCB vs KKR clash at Raipur on May 13.

The Virat Kohli-starrer franchise defeated Kolkata Knight Riders, and the victory not only pushed RCB further up the table but also placed them firmly as one of the top two teams heading into the playoffs in the final phase of the league stage.

Before the clash, RCB were placed second on the points table with 14 points from 11 matches. Following the win, the Rajat Patidar-led side will now move to 16 points from 12 matches.

Now, after the RCB vs KKR clash, let's break down every possible qualification and top-two scenario for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

RCB IPL 2026 Qualification Scenario Explained

RCB now have 16 points from the 12 matches they have played, and these points are generally enough to secure a playoff spot in the tournament, especially with the team having a strong net run rate.

RCB now have two league-stage matches remaining against Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad, and the Bengaluru franchise are currently in one of the safest positions among all teams fighting for the playoffs.

What If RCB Win Both Remaining Matches?

If RCB win both of their remaining matches, they will finish with 20 points from 14 games, and in that scenario, RCB will officially qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs.

With that, a top-two finish will almost be guaranteed for the franchise, and they could even finish first on the points table depending on Gujarat Titans' remaining results.

Consequently, winning against PBKS and SRH would directly damage two playoff rivals, making RCB's route even smoother.

What If RCB Win Only One Of Their Remaining Matches?

If RCB manage to win only one match from their final two games, even then they will finish with 18 points in their bag.

That total should also comfortably guarantee them a playoff qualification spot. In fact, 18 points could still be enough for RCB to finish inside the top two, depending on whether Gujarat Titans fail in one or two games in the group stage.

SRH failing to win all their remaining fixtures would also ensure that RCB secure the top-two spot, while Punjab Kings failing in their remaining matches would again strengthen RCB's top-two scenario.

Moreover, RCB's biggest advantage remains their excellent net run rate. Even if multiple teams finish on equal points, RCB are likely to stay ahead because of the massive margin they are carrying.

What If RCB Lose Both Remaining Matches?

Things might get interesting if RCB lose both of their remaining matches. If they lose both these games, RCB will remain on 16 points, and there the equation becomes slightly tricky.

Punjab Kings can go past RCB if they win all their remaining games, and SRH can also overtake them with strong finishes. In a more interesting scenario, CSK and RR can still mathematically reach 18 points, and then net run rate could come heavily into play.

Although RCB have a solid net run rate on their side, the calculation might get tougher. Nevertheless, even with two consecutive defeats, RCB would still have a very strong chance of finishing inside the top four unless several results go against them.

Can RCB Finish In Top Two Of IPL 2026?

RCB are currently one of the strongest contenders for a top-two finish in IPL 2026. The victory against KKR has given them a direct edge in the race because they now have 16 points already secured, and they possess one of the best net run rates in the league.

Their remaining fixtures are also against direct playoff rivals. If RCB beat PBKS and SRH, they could completely eliminate competitors from overtaking them. Even one win could potentially be enough for Qualifier 1, depending on Gujarat Titans' results.

At the moment, Bengaluru have placed themselves in one of the strongest positions. They have enjoyed a brilliant IPL season, and with momentum, net run rate, and strong form favouring them, the franchise is now looking to defend their title in IPL 2026.
