RCB have got off to a great start to IPL 2026 despite injury and availability concerns. The Rajat Patidar-led side have won two out of two games despite Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal, and Nuwan Thushara missing from the playing XI.

Yash Dayal was released by the franchise owing to his personal issues. Whereas Josh Hazlewood is nursing an injury and is on the verge of recovery. Meanwhile, Nuwan Thushara is in a legal battle with Sri Lankan cricket for denying an NOC.

Before the start of IPL 2026, Nuwan Thushara had some injury struggles. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Cricket made it mandatory for players obtaining NOCs for franchise cricket to undergo fitness tests. Notably, the right-arm seamer underwent a couple of tests and failed.

It was a massive setback for RCB and Thushara himself. Out of frustration at missing out on IPL 2026, the 31-year-old took a drastic step and dragged Sri Lankan cricket to court. He filed a case against SLC, seeking permission to play in franchise leagues. Notably, the matter was taken up by the Colombo District Court.

Notably, Sri Lankan cricket were taken aback by the move as they felt an insult, and there were reports that they might take drastic step against the right-arm seamer. One of the reasons why Thushara argued that his contract with Sri Lanka Cricket ended on March 31, 2026. He also informed the board earlier about his decision not to renew the contract and step away from international cricket.

In the latest events, Nuwan Thushara has taken a U-turn and apologised to Sri Lankan cricket for dragging them to court. A report from Sportstar mentioned that Thushara mailed to the cricket body in a mail and has also withdrawn the case.

“My sole intention throughout this process has been to seek fairness and justice, as I genuinely feel that I have been treated unfairly in this matter,” Thushara wrote.

“The steps I initially considered were driven by a desire to have my concerns heard and addressed appropriately, rather than to create conflict or bring disrepute to the organisation,” he added.

“I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience, misunderstanding, or distress that my actions may have caused to Sri Lanka Cricket and its officials,” he stated.

Not just Thushara, but Sri Lanka Cricket also denied NOC to Mathesha Pathirana and Wanindu Hasarana. Notably, Pathirana is waiting to join KKR, while Hasaranga has been ruled out of IPL 2026 as he did not appear for the tests.

At present, there is no update on whether Nuwan Thushara is officially ruled out of IPL 2026 or he will return to RCB in the later half of the tournament.
