Perth Scorchers have added another English cricketer to their squad ahead of the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season, bringing an aggressive wicketkeeper-batter into their plans.
The move comes as the defending champions reshape their batting options following changes to their overseas contingent. For Aneurin Donald, the deal marks a new chapter in his career after a series of impressive performances in English domestic cricket and his recent introduction to international cricket.
Aneurin Donald signs one-year deal with Perth Scorchers
Perth Scorchers have secured Aneurin Donald on a one-year contract for BBL 16, with the England wicketkeeper-batter available throughout the tournament, including the finals. The signing gives the franchise another attacking option at the top of the order as it prepares to defend its title.
Donald’s arrival follows Finn Allen’s departure to Melbourne Stars and comes amid uncertainty surrounding Josh Inglis’ future with the Scorchers. However, the Englishman will have an opportunity to establish himself in a side that already features several top-order batting options.
The 29-year-old has spent much of his career in county cricket, representing Glamorgan before continuing his domestic journey with Derbyshire. While he has experience across formats, his recent T20 performances have made him an attractive option for the Perth-based franchise.
Donald's Explosive T20 Form Earns Him BBL Opportunity
Donald arrives in Australia after producing some remarkable numbers in England's domestic T20 circuit. During the 2026 T20 Blast, he scored 489 runs at a strike rate of 230.66 for Derbyshire, underlining his ability to score rapidly and put opposition bowlers under pressure.
His consistency has extended beyond a single campaign. Across the last two editions of the T20 Blast, Donald accumulated 938 runs, with only James Vince, Will Smeed and D’Arcy Short scoring more during that period.
The right-hander also made an impact in The Hundred, scoring 38 off just 19 deliveries for Trent Rockets in the final at Lord’s. Those performances helped him earn his first England T20I call-up, and he featured in all three matches of the team's series against Sri Lanka, which England won 3-0.
Donald is also part of England's T20I squad for the five-match series in Australia across November and December, giving him an opportunity to familiarise himself with Australian conditions before the Big Bash begins.
