In a massive development, Bangladesh off-spinner Aliss Al Islam has been reported for a suspect bowling action during the ODI tri-series match against Afghanistan in Sharjah.
The match, which was played on Wednesday, 21 October, was the debut game for Aliss, who conceded 47 runs off the 8.3 overs that he bowled.
The cricketer also received his maiden T20I debut earlier in October, when Bangladesh was playing its Asian Games match against Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, the new development has now put Aliss's position in the cricket team at risk.
Aliss Islam to appear for assessment in front of ICC
After the Bangladesh versus Afghanistan match concluded, the match officials reported Aliss's bowling action and cited concerns about its legality.
Notably, the off-spinner will have to undergo an independent assessment of his bowling action at an ICC-accredited testing centre. The whole procedure will be supervised in accordance with the ICC Illegal Bowling Action Regulations.
Notably, Aliss has played a decent number of first-class and domestic cricket matches for Bangladesh. He has played 20 List A games, taking 35 wickets, while he has also played 59 T20 games, scalping 60 wickets at an average of 22.78.
Bangladeshi bowlers who were suspended for illegal bowling actions
Notably, not only Aliss but several Bangladesh bowlers have previously faced suspected bowling action issues. Bowlers like Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, and Abdur Razzak have been called to prove the legality of their bowling actions.
Mustafizur Rahman was called in the same year when he was adjudged to have an illegal action by the BCB review panel after the Dhaka Premier League. Meanwhile, Taskin was reported during the T20 World Cup match against the Netherlands, where his action was found illegal, and he was suspended.
If Aliss Al Islam is found guilty by the ICC, Aliss will be suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect. The BCB will then have the option to appeal the test results to an ICC-appointed panel within 14 days of receiving the report.
To return to international cricket, Aliss will have to work with BCB coaches and biomechanists to modify his bowling action and reduce his elbow extension below the 15-degree limit.
