The Pakistan Under-19 team has been struck with a major injury blow just a couple of days before their highly-anticipated U19 World Cup 2026 match against India. While playing an intra-squad match in Zimbabwe, teenage Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shayan suffered a nasty injury on his nose.
Shayan was instantly attended by the medical staff and was rushed to a nearby hospital, thus putting his availability for India game at high risk.
Mohammad Shayan likely to miss U19 World Cup match vs India
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Shayan is likely ruled out of the remainder of the ICC Under 19 World Cup 2026, as reported by Revsportz. The cricketer has suffered a fracture in his nose while playing an intra-squad match.
As of now, it remains to be seen whether Pakistan’s team management opts for a replacement or assesses his recovery before taking a final call on his participation in the tournament.
Mohammad Shayan’s form guide
In any case, Mohammad Shayan has played just a couple of matches so far for Pakistan U19 in the ongoing 2026 ICC Men’s Under-19 World Cup. Opening the innings, the cricketer fell for just seven off 18 balls a couple of weeks ago against England as Pakistan squandered away an easy run chase of just 211 in Harare.
In the match against New Zealand at the Harare Sports Club, Mohammad Shayan was demoted down the batting order and was not required to bat as the ‘Boys in Green’ secured a comprehensive eight-wicket win courtesy of opener Sameer Minhas.
He did punch out a match-winning knock of 38* off 42 balls with four boundaries and a six back on January 6 at the Old Hararians in the final of the Zimbabwe U19 OD tri-series.
Nonetheless, the Pakistan U19 team will now go up against arch-rivals India in the final Super Six match of the 2026 ICC Men’s U19 World Cup. The much-awaited contest will be hosted by the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo and the action will commence from 1:00 PM IST onwards on Sunday, February 1.
Pakistan’s journey so far in ICC U19 World Cup 2026
The Pakistan Under-19 team, under the leadership of Farhan Yousaf, finished second on the Group C points table in the opening round of the tournament. The ‘Boys in Green’ managed to secure two convincing wins after sustaining a demoralizing defeat to England in a low-scoring contest earlier this month.
The Pakistan team subsequently qualified for the Super Six stage of the 2026 U19 World Cup. They started off the crucial round with a comprehensive result over New Zealand and is currently placed third on the Group 2 points table.
Pakistan’s upcoming Super Six match against India marks a must-win for Farhan’s troops, considering a defeat in any form will knock them out of the competition. In a bid to qualify for the semifinals, Pakistan needs to beat India by a huge margin to secure a top two finish in the group.
