Nigar Sultana for Bangladesh (Source: AFP Photos)The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) accepted Nigar Sultana’s formal resignation as T20I captain after a dismal showing at the Women’s Asian Games 2026, where the team failed to secure a medal for the first time in the competition’s history.However, Sultana will remain Bangladesh’s ODI captain, at least for Bangladesh's Women’s tour of Australia in 2026. She will be in action when Bangladesh and Australia meet at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on October 9.The second and third ODIs of the series will be held at the same venue as well, on October 11 and October 14, respectively.Bangladesh Women Wing Chairman Confirms Nigar Sultana DevelopmentBangladesh Women’s Wing chairman Rafiqul Islam Babu spoke with Daily Sun about what happened involving Nigar Sultana. There, Babu revealed all the developments.“Joty has only informed the BCB about her decision to step down from T20I captaincy. She has not stepped down as ODI captain. Since Bangladesh will play three ODIs in Australia, Joty will lead the team in that series," Rafiqul Islam Babu told Daily Sun.Besides, Babu also confirmed that they had a chat with all Bangladesh women cricketers as scheduled. In the meeting, BCB president Tamim Iqbal asked Sultana openly why she did not discuss the matter with Bangladesh’s women’s wing chairman before making such a big decision.“Tamim asked Joty why she took such a decision without speaking to the Women’s Wing chairman, and why she put the BCB in an embarrassing situation. Joty did not answer the question. She remained silent,” he added.Bangladesh Women To Have New Coach In AustraliaSultana, however, will work alongside a new head coach in Australia. Babu highlighted that Sarwar Imran’s contract has already expired, and thus he won’t need to be given a show-cause notice, which was thought to happen earlier."Our coach made some indiscreet comments that nobody wanted to hear. I think he went somewhat beyond the code of conduct in making those comments. Since he is under contract with the BCB, he cannot really make such comments. He has already said it, and that is very unfortunate," Rafiqul said, as quoted by Cricbuzz."We have not issued any show-cause notice yet. He is a very senior coach, and we did not expect this from him. Among the senior coaches working under the cricket board, he is one of them. So we did not expect this from him. I said in the media that he made a mistake, a serious mistake," he added.David Hemp Named New Head CoachBangladesh women will have David Hemp as head coach in Australia. Hemp previously worked with the Bangladesh High Performance (HP) unit as their head coach, along with the Bangladesh men’s team's batting coach.“You will see changes in the Australia tour squad. David Hemp will go with the team as coach. You will see where the changes are on the 30th.
