Mohsin Naqvi has been accused of plotting the murder of former Pakistan prime minister and ex-cricket captain Imran Khan. It is worth noting that the cricketer-turned-politician has been held as a political prisoner in Pakistan under the ‘Asim Munir regime’.
Imran Khan’s sisters have alleged that they have also received threats from Mohsin Naqvi, who is currently the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Naqvi is also Pakistan’s interior minister, with Asim Munir serving the nation as “Chief of Defence Forces”.
Mohsin Naqvi plotting to kill Imran Khan, as per legend’s sister
PCB chairman and Pakistan’s interior minister Mohsin Naqvi is reportedly aiming to murder Imran Khan, as alleged by the ex-cricketer’s sisters. Imran’s sisters Dr Uzma Khan and Aleema Khan have alleged that both Naqvi and Asim Munir are plotting a conspiracy to kill the 1992 World Cup winning captain.
Both Uzma and Aleema confirmed that during a press conference after meeting with their brother. Quoting Imran Khan, Uzma said “These people will kill me; they have made a plan to kill me.”
The allegations against Naqvi have further intensified the controversies surrounding him. The PCB chairman and Pakistan’s interior minister recently faced the heat from all corners of the cricketing fraternity for holding the big-ticket India vs Pakistan match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 as a hostage on political grounds.
The episode has added another tense chapter to Pakistan’s volatile political climate, with Imran Khan’s name once again at the centre of national debate. Meanwhile, Mohsin Naqvi continues to draw some unwanted attention from both, political and cricketing circles due to his dual role.
Why is Imran Khan jailed?
Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was jailed back in May 2023 by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in Islamabad. He was arrested on charges of corruption in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust.
As he remains arrested in Pakistan, Imran Khan’s deteriorating health has been a growing cause for concern among his supporters and family.
Even several former cricketers have raised concerns regarding his well-being and immediate release. Apart from Greg Chappell and West Indies’ Clive Lloyd, former Indian captains like Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev were among those who recently urged the Pakistan government to treat their sporting legend fairly.
Mohsin Naqvi’s String Of Controversies Continues
Naqvi has been a central figure in several cricketing controversies over the last one year. After making controversial anti-India remarks, the PCB Chairman and ACC President walked away with the Asia Cup 2025 trophy in Dubai during the presentation ceremony after India’s thrilling victory over Pakistan in the final.
Earlier this month, the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB and the Pakistan government barred the Pakistan team from facing India at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on political grounds. However, after getting threatened by the ICC in an extensive meeting, the ban was revoked and the match went ahead as scheduled in Colombo on February 15.
