On Wednesday, April 22, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) dealt a massive setback after their star all-rounder, Mohammad Nawaz, tested positive for taking a recreational drug during the T20 World Cup 2026. The news spread like wildfire on social media, and Nawaz came under heavy scrutiny, after which the PCB quickly jumped into action.

For the unversed, Nawaz tested positive for taking the drug during routine check-ups when the T20 World Cup was underway in India and Sri Lanka. However, in the latest events, the PCB has taken the matter seriously and launched an investigation.

PCB Launches Investigation into Mohammad Nawaz’s Drug Use

The PCB spokesperson, speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, confirmed that a committee has been set up and the 32-year-old will be investigated for his actions.

"The International Cricket Council (ICC) has informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) about this matter, and PCB has begun the due process. The results of this process will be communicated to the ICC today," a PCB spokesperson told ESPNcricinfo on Wednesday.

Mohammad Nawaz Reacts To Failing Doping Test

In the latest developments, a report from Samaa TV also presented Mohammad Nawaz’s clarification and stated that the Pakistan all-rounder has refused to accept the results. Notably, Nawaz is firm on his stance that he has done nothing illegal and is all set to challenge the result of the doping test conducted by the ICC.

The report added that Mohammad Nawaz will undergo another doping test on April 30. Based on that result, the PCB might spring into some action if the all-rounder is test positive again for the recreational drug.

Mohammad Nawaz Banned From England League

Despite, PCB's investigation yet to conclude and come to a point, but ECB has already taken action against Mohammad Nawaz. Notably, his planned move to Surrey for England’s T20 Blast has been cancelled. 

England's T20 Blast 2026 is set to start from Mid May and Nawaz had recieved NOC from PCB to join Surrey for the much-awaited tournament. However, after the recent developments, he agreement has been terminated. Therefore, Nawaz will not be part of Surrey’s squad this season.

Mohammad Nawaz Currently Featuring In PSL 2026

At present, Mohammad Nawaz is playing in PSL 2026. He is representating Multan Sultans. So far, the 32-year-old has played four matches with the bat, amassing 36 runs. With the ball, the left-arm spinner has picked up 6 wickets in seven innings.

Now, shedding light on the T20 World Cup 2026, which is where the problem began for Nawaz, then that was an underwhelming tournament for the Pakistan all-rounder. During that event, the 32-year-old took seven wickets and scored just 15 runs in five innings with the bat.

Nawaz had also faced criticism for his underwhelming performance.
