The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise has suffered yet another injury setback this IPL 2026 season. With MS Dhoni yet to play a single game owing to his calf strain, and the likes of Khaleel Ahmed and Ayush Mhatre getting ruled out of the tournament, star all-rounder Jamie Overton is now set to fly back home.
It is worth noting that Overton has sustained an injury on his right thigh and the 32-year-old will be returning to the United Kingdom (UK) for “further assessment and management.”
CSK suffer huge blow amid tight IPL 2026 playoff race
Jamie Overton has suffered an injury and is now expected to travel back home for further assessment. The CSK franchise confirmed the same on their official website on Wednesday, May 13, i.e., just a couple of days prior to their all-important match against the LSG.

The franchise, however, did not confirm if Overton will return to India for the remainder of the tournament. The development indicates that the English bowling all-rounder might well have played his last match of the IPL 2026 season already, when he went up against the LSG in Chennai last weekend.
Jamie Overton in IPL 2026 so far
Jamie Overton has emerged as one of the integral members of the CSK franchise this IPL 2026 season. The lanky English paceman has picked up 14 wickets in just 10 innings of the tournament thus far at an impressive bowling average of 17.78.
In his previous game, the speedster decimated the LSG with exceptional figures of 3-36 on a high-scoring Chennai surface.
Overton has also made his presence felt with the bat, smearing 136 runs in just six innings at an astonishing strike rate of 158.13 and with an average of 34.
MS Dhoni ruled out of away game vs LSG
MS Dhoni, who is yet to play a single game this IPL 2026 season for the CSK franchise, will now have to wait a little longer for his return to competitive cricket. A recent report from Vijay Tagore of Cricbuzz confirmed that Dhoni will stay back in Chennai and will not be travelling with his colleagues to Lucknow for their upcoming away game.
It is worth noting that prior to the season, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter was ruled out of the first two weeks of the competition owing to a calf strain.
CSK in mid-table traffic for playoffs push
The CSK franchise is currently gasping for points in the mid-table battle royale during the fag end of the IPL 2026 season. Under the leadership of Ruturaj Gaikwad, the franchise has secured six wins and five defeats from 11 matches to accumulate 12 points. Their NRR also reads an impressive 0.185.
Notably, CSK now need to win at least two of its remaining three matches to be guaranteed a spot in the IPL 2026 playoffs.
