The Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) has formally complained to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) about a scoring fault, which cost Jharkhand's team a one-run defeat against Uttarakhand in Nagpur in the Women’s Under 19 tournament.

The state association has written to the BCCI seeking its intervention in the matter, as the alleged error could have had a decisive impact on the outcome of the contest.

Scoring error allegedly costs Jharkhand a win in Women's U19 tournament

The episode unfolded during a Women’s Under-19 tournament clash between Jharkhand and Uttarakhand on October 20.

Chasing a respectable 134/6, Jharkhand needed 8 runs off the final over, with Lakshmi Kumari and Eshika Bhagat at the crease. After taking three runs off the first three balls, the chasing team lost Kumari to a run-out.

As per JSCA’s complaint, the batters rotated the strike once before the run-out took place, but that single wasn’t added to the team total by the main scorer. Apparently, the scorer at the far end had added one run, but the error was made by the main scorer at the big screen.

Jharkhand's team scored three on the remaining deliveries, but lost the game by one run.

Jharkhand official blames scorer, umpires for scoring error

According to a report by the Indian Express, the Jharkhand Cricket Association has written to the BCCI, requesting the Indian board to look into the matter.

A JCA official stated the team had asked the main scorer to correct the mistake, but the match official in Nagpur didn't budge and stood firm on his ground.

“The scoreboard at the far end had the updated score after each ball but the main scorer forgot to add one run which cost us a tie. We requested the scorer to make the correction but he didn’t," a Jharkhand official told Indian Express.

Furthermore, the official added that the umpires must follow the information provided by the official scorer, rather than relying on the person physically operating the scoreboard.

"As per the rule, umpires have to go by the scorer and not at the person doing scoring at the scoreboard,” the official added.
