James Anderson is set to receive multiple options to extend his cricketing career. Quite recently, the legendary fast bowler was told that he will not be given a new contract by the Lancashire cricket club.

Reportedly on track to retire from professional cricket, a number of English counties are already interested in signing the 44-year-old if he decides to play the 2027 County Championship next year.

James Anderson attracts interest from Counties for 2027 season

As reported by BBC, a number of English counties are keen to speak to James Anderson after the legendary fast bowler was informed that his contract will not be extended by the Lancashire cricket club for the 2027 County Championship next year.

The report also states that cricket clubs from both Divisions of the County Championship will soon be approaching Anderson to negotiate a deal.

One of the greatest fast bowlers of all time, the legendary right-arm paceman will surely be a welcome addition for any cricket club. However, the fast bowler will turn 45 in the middle of the 2027 County Championship in England next year. His advancing age and the physical demands of county cricket could make his fitness a significant concern.

In any case, a move from James Anderson to another club will largely depend on the finances of the deal. Moreover, owing to his vast experience, the cricketer might even be given an additional role in the club as a coach.

He already served as Lancashire captain in the recently-concluded 2026 County Championship Division Two season.

James Anderson exits Lancashire with unmatched legacy

James Anderson made his first-class debut for the Lancashire cricket club way back in 2002. He played 112 matches for the club spanning numerous seasons, picking 443 of his overall 1,193 first-class wickets for them.

The legendary fast bowler also maintained an exceptional bowling average of just 21.09, scalping 23 five-wicket hauls in the process.

In this year’s 2026 County Championship Division Two alone, the ageing warhorse collected 50 wickets from just 11 innings of 21 matches at an average of 17.68 and with a strike rate of 38.66.

Bowing out of the Lancashire Cricket Club on a high, it remains to be seen whether the 44-year-old will shift his domestic base next year or finally bring the curtains down on his illustrious professional career.
