Bangladesh's Aliss Al Islam faced the ICC's thunder after the off-spinner's action was suspected during a fixture of the Tri-Series in UAE 2026. BCB chief selector Habibul Bashar has come out in defence of the young spinner.
Aliss Al Islam made his ODI debut against Afghanistan at Abu Dhabi on October 21, 2026. Although he took no wickets in that match, the match referee and officials reported his action as illegal.
Habibul Bashar defends Aliss Al Islam after ICC suspection on bowling action
The chief selector Habibul Bashar defended the off-spinner and his bowling action, stating that his bowling action was corrected before his national call-up, as it was reported during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL 2025/26) as well.
"When we selected him, his bowling action had been corrected and performed. There was no question mark over his bowling at the time of selection. He had been reported before in the BPL, came back corrected, proved himself, and played in the national team too. We selected him on the basis of all of that," chief selector Bashar told reporters.
"Now he has been reported again. I hope he will work on it and come back. The process is like this," he added.
Aliss Al Islam to undergo bowling action assessment
For now, the ICC has asked spinner Aliss Al Islam to undergo an independent assessment of his bowling action at an ICC-accredited testing centre, while the procedure will be supervised under the ICC Illegal Bowling Action Regulations.
If the ICC finds him guilty, Aliss will be suspended from bowling in international cricket with immediate effect.
Notably, the tweaker made his international debut during the 2026 Asian Games against Sri Lanka, returning with figures of 1 for 18.
Aliss Al Islam came into the limelight during the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League 2026, where he bagged 24 wickets in 10 innings at an economy rate under 4 RPO.
Back home, the 29-year-old is among the rising spinning talents, with nearly 100 professional wickets under his belt.
