Shardul Thakur is set to miss another Ranji Trophy 2026-27 match for the Mumbai cricket team. As per reports, the senior all-rounder will now miss Mumbai’s third round match of the tournament against Haryana at the BKC Complex from Monday, October 26 onwards.
Thakur has already missed Mumbai’s first two matches of the season owing to his finger injury concern.
Shardul Thakur injury further impacts his availability
Forgotten Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur sustained an injury to his right middle finger during a training session just before the start of the ongoing Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season. As per the initial update, it was revealed that the senior cricketer will be forced to miss Mumbai’s first two matches of the tournament.
However, it now appears that Thakur will also have to miss Mumbai’s upcoming third game of the competition, set to be played against Haryana between October 26 and October 29 at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai.
While the Mumbai camp may have been hoping that the 35-year-old would attain his full recovery in time, the cricketer is yet to be declared match fit. Nonetheless, he has been training with the Mumbai squad.
As he continues to recover, Shardul is also scheduled to perform commentary duties for Team India’s ongoing multi-format tour of New Zealand.
Even though Thakur’s injury has extended his unavailability, the Mumbai cricket team seems to be operating just fine without the all-rounder. Under new captain Siddhesh Lad, Mumbai is placed at the top of the Group D Ranji Trophy 2026-27 points table with huge innings wins over Chandigarh and Himachal in successive matches.
When was the last time Shardul Thakur played competitive cricket
Shardul Thakur recently played the 2026 Duleep Trophy season for the West Zone cricket team in Bengaluru just a couple of months ago.
He also played nine matches for the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL 2026 season between March and May this year. Under his leadership, Mumbai reached the quarter-final of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season.
As of now, it remains to be seen when Thakur will regain full fitness and return to competitive cricket for Mumbai.
