This could keep her on the sidelines for the series, having already missed a lot of action due to injuries in recent years.The Bangladesh series is supposed to be the first time since winning the T20 World Cup in England that the Aussie Women's side is back in international action, getting the summer underway.Sophie Molineux's participation in Bangladesh series in doubtWith the home leg of the summer set to get underway for the Australian women's team, the roster will play in the Women's National Cricket League from Tuesday. But in her 8 year international career, the promising allrounder has not been able to play at her 100 per cent for long stretches.From 2021 to 2022, she sustained foot injuries, keeping her out of the team for about two years. In November 2022, she also ruptured her ACL during the WBBL season, before a subsequent surgery late in 2024 after a flare-up, which kept her out of the multi-format Ashes series.Furthermore, after being named as the new captain after Alyssa Healy's retirement, she suffered back injury, keeping her on the sidelines of the West Indies series early in 2026. Ahead of the T20 World Cup in England, she also toured the Caribbean as a pure batter, to avoid any discomfort in the back.Who will be Australia's captain in Molineux's absence?When the 28-year-old was named as the new Australia captain, a lot of doubts were raised, considering his injury history. Many believed Ashleigh Gardner should have been the chosen one for the role; nonetheless, the latter was named as a join-vice captain alongside Tahila McGrath.Tahila McGrath led the team against West Indies but is not a sureshot part of the T20 setup. Ashleigh Gardner was the vice-captain during the T20 World Cup and is likely to assume the captaincy duties for the Bangladesh series, pending official confirmation.Australia Women will play three ODIs against Bangladesh in Brisbane from October 9 to 14 and the series will be followed by three T20Is against New Zealand in North Sydney.
