As per the original BCCI itinerary, the first ODI of the three-match series between the two sides in December later this year will be hosted by the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.However, several recent reports indicate that the match will now be hosted by the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on the same date. India vs Sri Lanka first ODI to move out of DelhiAs reported by Jagran News journalist Abhishek Tripathi, the first ODI of the upcoming India vs Sri Lanka series will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, as opposed to the planned Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The match is scheduled to be played on December 13, and it also marks the opening fixture of Sri Lanka’s six-match white-ball tour of India later this year. Late last month, several other reports also indicated that a possible shift from Delhi was inevitable for the series-opening first ODI match between Sri Lanka and hosts India. Why will India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI be shifted out of Delhi?As mentioned last month as well, the first ODI of the three-match series between India and Sri Lanka will likely be shifted out of the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi owing to the planned construction work at the venue.A report states that the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) is planning to revamp the iconic Delhi venue, including pitch and outfield renovation, installation of a new modern drainage system and upgrading the overall infrastructure of the stadium.Apart from being unable to host the India vs Sri Lanka 1st ODI, the stadium will also be unable to host Delhi’s Ranji Trophy 2026-27 fixtures against Gujarat, Services and Maharashtra cricket teams in the coming months. Women’s and junior age group matches are also set to be affected.
