The prolific opener has been a regular member of the Indian Test side ever since the youngster made his format debut way back in mid-2023 in the West Indies.However, the prodigious left-handed batter also averages a staggering 71.25 in ODI cricket, but hardly receives an opportunity in the Indian playing XI. Some might say that the youngster has been treated “unfairly” by selectors and the Indian team management when it comes to his ODI status for India.However, a certain Indian cricket coach from the Gautam Gambhir-led management believes that the cricketer has not been treated unfairly at all, and his repeated omissions from the current 50-overs set up is just a “part of the game”.Indian batting coach says intense competition keeping Jaiswal awayWhile speaking with the reporters a day before India’s first ODI of the series against the West Indies, Indian batting coach Sitanshu Kotak pretty much implied that Yashasvi Jaiswal might have to wait even longer before finding his place in the team’s 50-overs setup. Kotak claimed that Team India is already flooded with immense talent, with many players performing well and competing for places in the XI. Jaiswal is one of the best, and whenever he gets an opportunity, he performs. But sometimes, you see, say there are three very good wicketkeepers in a team and only one will play. He should keep working hard and wait for his opportunity.”Does Yashasvi Jaiswal deserve a place in India’s ODI XIYashasvi Jaiswal averages a prolific 71.25 after playing six ODI matches for Team India. However, the prolific left-hander has played ODI cricket only sporadically so far, considering all his six appearances have spanned more than 18 months. In his last ODI outing for India, the prolific top-order batter punched out a match-winning 110* off just 86 balls against Afghanistan in Chennai a couple of months ago.Despite his run-scoring frenzy in 50-overs internationals, India’s current top-order in ODIs is pretty much settled with the likes of captain Shubman Gill, legendary opener Rohit Sharma and run machine Virat Kohli. Compatible to Sitanshu Kotak’s claims, Yashasvi Jaiswal will be required to wait to become a regular member of India’s ODI XI, at least up until the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in South Africa next year.Batting coach implies Ravindra Jadeja in plans for World Cup 2027Sitanshu Kotak also feels that Ravindra Jadeja is still in India’s plans for the 2027 ICC World Cup next year, even though the legendary all-rounder has not played a single ODI for India since the conclusion of their home series against New Zealand back in January this year. Kotak said “Jadeja is an outstanding all-rounder, we all know. And to me, he is still one of the world’s best fielders. He bowls, he bats and he has the experience. I believe experience is something you cannot beat.”As of now, it remains to be seen when Yashasvi Jaiswal can find himself in India’s long-term ODI plans and whether comeback man Ravindra Jadeja can justify his return call-up for the series against West Indies.
