Virender Sehwag and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi [Source: AFP]Vaibhav Sooryavanshi burst onto the competitive cricket scene early last year at a tender age of 13. His batting is bold, audacious, and almost unforgiving for bowlers even on an ordinary day, with a fearless approach and instinctive stroke-making that is reminiscent of the swashbuckling Virender Sehwag.Apparently, Sehwag seems to subscribe to the same school of thought, as admitted by the former opener himself during a recent interview. Virender Sehwag believes Sooryavanshi’s thinking is similar to hisWhile speaking during a discussion at the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s annual session on October 10, former India opener Virender Sehwag praised young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his explosive pyro techniques with the bat. The 2011 World Cup winner also claimed that Sooryavanshi’s attacking mindset is somewhat similar to his own style of cricket, and further stated that the youngster has it in him to make the most of his playing opportunities for Team India in international cricket.ALSO READWatch- Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Goes Berserk In Nets Ahead of IND vs WI 2nd T20IHe said “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is in his prime, and his thinking is somewhat similar to mine, that of hitting right from the first ball. Now, it is about when he gets the opportunity and how many matches he plays for India.”Virender Sehwag also dismissed any age concerns related to the 15-year-old Indian opening batter. He said that age does not matter when someone is playing for India, and both Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and a 38-year-old Virat Kohli can play for the country at the highest level.Sehwag explained “Look, if you are playing in an age-category, it makes sense — if it’s Under-19, your age should be under 19. But once you play the IPL or play for India, age doesn’t matter. A 38- or 40-year-old (Virat) Kohli is playing, and a 15-year-old Sooryavanshi is also playing. Then, performance matters.”What makes Vaibhav Sooryavanshi similar to Virender Sehwag? For starters, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi happens to be an attacking opening batter for India who believes in making the most of the powerplay overs. The blistering left-hander also holds a penchant of starting off his innings with a statement boundary. These attributes themselves make him a spiritual descendant of Virender Sehwag, one of India’s greatest opening batters of all time and a proud two-time World Cup winner.Having barely turned 15, Sooryavanshi blazed Team India to a historic U19 World Cup 2026 title in Zimbabwe earlier this year, and followed it up with a sensational ‘Orange Cap’ winning run in the IPL 2026 season for the Rajasthan Royals franchise. He was also a part of the Indian team that clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan just a couple of weeks ago. On an individual note, the youngster holds the record of scoring one of the fastest List A hundreds of all time, and is the proud recipient of two of IPL’s three fastest-ever hundreds. If Virender Sehwag’s prophecy is anything to go by, the best of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s exploits in an India shirt could still lie ahead, with the youngster seemingly destined to make the most of every opportunity that comes his way on the international stage.ALSO READSahibzada Farhan To Dominate Thushara?
