Harmanpreet Kaur has attained a historic feat, doing so even before the start of India’s high-profile Women’s Asia Cup 2026 match against Pakistan. When the Indian skipper flipped the coin at the Dubai International Stadium, she entered the 205th match of her Women’s T20I career.
It is worth noting that the 37-year-old has led the nation in 150 of those matches, thus leading even the likes of Chamari Athapaththu, Marie Bimenyimana and Meg Lanning in an illustrious list.
Harmanpreet Kaur completes 150 matches as India captain
Harmanpreet Kaur has become the first women’s cricketer in history to lead her team in 150 or more T20I matches. She attained the feat during India’s third match of the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup in Dubai on September 5.
Kaur is also one of only four captains in the world to have captained her side in 100 or more T20I matches, and currently holds the record for most matches as captain in the women’s T20I game. Here is a look at four captains with the highest number of matches to their names in Women’s T20I cricket.

Harmanpreet Kaur journey as T20I captain
Kaur was first appointed as India’s T20I captain way back in 2012 on an interim basis. To date, she has led the side in 149 women’s T20I matches, excluding the ongoing one against Pakistan in the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup.
Under her leadership, Team India has secured 86 wins at an expense of 57 defeats, with five no results and one tied result.
The ‘Women in Blue’ reached the final of the 2020 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in Australia, before losing out to the hosts in the title clash at the iconic MCG.
While Harmanpreet Kaur is yet to lead Team India to a T20 World Cup glory, she is the most successful women’s skipper in history in terms of recording the highest number of wins.
Kaur’s tally of 86 T20I wins in women’s cricket keeps her much ahead of former Australian skipper and multi-World Cup winner Meg Lanning (76 wins).
