Just ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, Team India is hustling hard in the ongoing five-match T20I series against New Zealand, and head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen in a different role. Before the third T20I, Team India’s head coach was seen seeking blessings at the Kamakhya Temple in Assam.

After consecutive victories in the first two matches of the series, Suryakumar Yadav and Co. are holding firm control of the series. As they walk into Sunday’s third clash, India will be hunting one more victory to seal the series.

Gautam Gambhir seeks divine blessings at Kamakhya Temple

After a horrible defeat in the three-match ODI series against New Zealand, Team India got their rhythm back in the ongoing T20I series. Sealing two consecutive dominating victories in the ongoing series, they have already tightened their grip and are looking forward to continuing their winning streak.

As the Men in Blue are set to face the Kiwis in the third T20I at Guwahati, head coach Gautam Gambhir’s spiritual move grabbed the attention. Ahead of stepping into the crucial match, he was spotted offering prayers at the sacred Kamakhya Temple in Assam.

Gautam Gambhir’s spiritual side is no secret, having visited the Kamakhya Temple even last year ahead of the five-match Test series against England. Even before the third ODI against New Zealand, the Indian head coach was seen seeking blessings at Ujjain’s Mahakaleshwar Temple.

India hit peak form just in time for the T20 World Cup 2026

The recently ended ODI series was a massive setback for Team India as Gautam Gambhir faced massive criticism after a 2-1 series defeat. But the tables turned in the ongoing T20I series. In the opening T20I, India stormed to a commanding 48-run victory, powered by Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 84-run knock.

Continuing their exceptional form even in the second match, Team India delivered the fireworks. Captain Suryakumar Yadav’s off-form became a long-standing concern, but the Indian skipper shut the criticism with a match-winning 82-run innings.

Making a sensational return to the side after a long gap, Ishan Kishan lit up the chase with a blistering 76-run knock. With that combined effort, Team India chased down the massive total of 209 runs in just 16 overs and secured a dominating 7-wicket victory.

Gambhir’s blueprint points straight to T20 World Cup silverware

After Team India lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in 2024, Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as Team India’s head coach. Under his guidance, Team India went through ups and down and the coach often faced criticism.

India lifted the Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup under him, but heartbreaking failures in the longest format followed, along with a home Test series defeat, culminating in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat. But the real test for the head coach is yet to arrive.

Team India will step into the T20 World Cup as defending champions, and, adding to this, the Men in Blue will play the tournament on their home soil. The expectation will be high, and they will try to keep the trophy at home. Riding on red-hot form, India look ready to embrace the challenge as Gautam Gambhir sets his sights firmly on World Cup glory.
