In between Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup drama, another thrilling edition of the BPL has been wrapped up and fans witnessed some of the thrilling T20 actions. Despite a loss to Rajshahi Warriors, Chattogram Royals’ Shoriful Islam stole the spotlight, clinching the Best Player of the Tournament award.
As Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup stance created a massive buzz, the Bangladeshi pacer was asked about this. The pacer kept it candid, saying the decision is out of players’ hands and rests entirely with the BCB.
Shoriful Islam points to BCB as the ultimate decision-maker
The T20 World Cup has always delivered drama, but the 2026 edition is already heating up off the field. Bangladesh’s refusal to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026 ignited the drama even more. After missing ICC’s deadline, their chances of participating in the tournament is almost low as reports suggest Scotland is set to replace them.
As the ongoing drama is shaking up the the world, Bangladeshi pacer Shoriful Islam was asked about the controversial decision of their board. The pacer stayed diplomatic, saying the final call rests with the Bangladesh Cricket Board, as players have no control over such decisions.
“Whether we go to the World Cup or not is totally a decision of the BCB. As players, our responsibility is to think about how we can perform better. Everyone tries to give their best from their own position, and that’s what I am trying to do as well,” he said.
“Now, going to the World Cup or not going is not in our hands. The guardians of our cricket have taken a decision, and we respect that. There is no point in talking too much about something we don’t control,” he added.
Amid the chaos, cricket remains Shoriful's only focus
In recent time, some of the Bangladeshi players have showcased frustration over BCB’s stand over the T20 World Cup. Even some of the former stars openly slammed the cricket body, citing future concerns.
After the BPL 2025-26 final match ended, Shoriful Islam was asked whether players had discussed the issue within the dressing room. Staying diplomatic, the pacer played it safe, saying it’s best for players to focus on their game.
“We don’t know what will happen next. So rather than thinking about that, it’s better to stay focused on our game,” Shoriful said.
Royals stumble while Shoriful continues to rule the BPL
Bangladesh cricket has endured a turbulent phase lately, from T20 World Cup uncertainty to the mid-season halt of the BPL. Amidst all, the Chattogram Royals grabbed the limelight with their sublime performance. Facing the Rajshahi Warriors in the BPL final, hope was high until it was dashed.
Chasing down the total of 175 runs, the Royals ended their innings in just 111 runs, facing a 63-run defeat. Even they ended their campaign ended up with a massive heartbreak, Shoriful Islam shone bright with his outstanding form.
In 12 matches, he secured 26 scalps with a glorious fifer. After those outstanding performances, he clinched the Best Player of the Bangladesh Premier League title.
