In a significant development, the Sunrisers Hyderabad have officially announced the replacement of injured pacer David Payne. Notably, Payne was recently ruled out of the IPL 2026 due to an ankle injury.

Although David Payne was initially unsold in the IPL 2026 auction, SRH signed him as a replacement for Jack Edwards, who was sidelined from the tournament due to a foot injury.

With Pat Cummins recovering from a lumbar stress injury, Payne received an IPL cap from the Sunrisers in the ongoing season.

However, the left-arm pacer had a disappointing campaign before an ankle injury ruled him out of the entire competition.

Now, in the latest development, a former Mumbai Indians bowler has joined the SRH IPL 2026 squad as his replacement.

After Payne was officially ruled out of the tournament, Sunrisers Hyderabad signed a former Mumbai Indians pacer as his replacement for the remainder of the tournament.

In an official press release, the IPL confirmed that South African speedster Gerald Coetzee has joined the SRH IPL 2026 squad as Payne's injury replacement.

Coetzee was a part of Mumbai Indians' IPL 2024 squad, and he bagged 13 wickets in 10 matches for the five-time champions. However, his IPL 2025 campaign for Gujarat Titans was marred by poor form.

Overall, Coetzee has played 14 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans combined, scalping 15 wickets at a strike rate of 18.2.

Gerald Coetzee IPL 2026 price

Ace South African fast bowler Gerald Coetzee was unsold in the IPL 2026 auction. He had a base price of INR 2 crores.

However, as he had a poor campaign in 2025 season (2 wickets in 4 innings, economy- 10.92), Coetzee failed to crack a deal in the 2026 auction.

Nevertheless, he has been a force to reckon with the ball since recovering from the injury. In the recently concluded series against New Zealand, Coetzee troubled the host batters with sheer pace, scalping eight wickets in five innings at a superb economy of 6.21.

Therefore, Gerald Coetzee's red-hot recent form is believed to be the primary reason behind his IPL comeback as he joins the SRH IPL 2026 squad at his base price of INR 2 crore.

Why is Gerald Coetzee an excellent addition to SRH IPL 2026 squad?

The Sunrisers Hyderabad had a worrisome fast bowling department comprising players like Harshal Patel, David Payne and Jaydev Unadkat, who are at the twilight of their careers.

With Pat Cummins injured, the Orange Army had to field a depleted pace attack until they introduced the fiery duo of Praful Hinge and Sakib Hussain to the IPL 2026.

While Cummins is poised to make his IPL return in the upcoming fixture against Gujarat Titans, the addition of Gerald Coetzee to the SRH IPL 2026 squad has further strengthened the Sunrisers.

They have discovered a magnificent new-ball bowler in Praful Hinge, while Sakib, Cummins and Coetzee are excellent operators in the middle and death overs.

Coetzee's raw pace and ability to hit the bat hard make him an X-factor, which the Sunrisers would love to utilise in the remainder of the tournament.
