Rajasthan Royals (RR) grabbed headlines after securing the final playoff spot in IPL 2026, but their social media activity soon became a major talking point.

After defeating Mumbai Indians (MI), RR celebrated its qualification with a meme aimed at Punjab Kings (PBKS). The post featured Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor, which quickly went viral online.

However, later, the franchise deleted the post from its social media, sparking speculation about potential legal trouble.

Soon after, several social media users claimed that Arjun Kapoor had filed a defamation case against Rajasthan Royals for using his image without permission.

What was RR’s viral post all about?

The controversy began after Rajasthan Royals defeated Mumbai Indians by 30 runs in a must-win IPL 2026 league match. The victory helped RR qualify for the playoffs and simultaneously knocked Punjab Kings out of the tournament.

Punjab Kings had earlier posted “Sorry bhai, aaj nahi!” on social media during the playoff race, taking a dig at RR. After confirming qualification, RR responded with a meme featuring Arjun Kapoor from a popular viral clip.

In the meme, the actor appeared locked out while others entered, mocking PBKS for missing the playoffs. RR captioned the post with the phrase “Panga na lo,”.

RR removes the post after online backlash

Although the meme gained engagement online, Rajasthan Royals later deleted the post from their official X account. Reports suggested that the franchise decided to remove it after concerns were raised over personality rights and the use of Arjun's picture.

The issue became more sensitive because earlier this year, the Delhi High Court had granted interim protection to Arjun’s personality and publicity rights.

The court restricted the unauthorised use of the actor’s name, image, and voice, especially in cases involving fake and AI-generated content.

It is vital to note that despite the backlash, neither RR nor Arjun Kapoor publicly addressed the meme issue after the post was removed.

Has Arjun Kapoor taken legal action against Rajasthan Royals?

Several social media posts later claimed that Arjun Kapoor had filed a defamation case against Rajasthan Royals. One viral post alleged that the actor believed the meme harmed his public image and reputation.

However, there is currently no official confirmation that Arjun Kapoor has filed any lawsuit or legal complaint against the IPL franchise. Neither the actor nor anyone related to him has issued a statement on the matter.

Additionally, no court filings or verified legal documents connected to the controversy have surfaced publicly so far.

Sakshi's opinion (Conclusion)

The Rajasthan Royals-Arjun Kapoor meme controversy shows how quickly social media banter can turn into a big problem. While IPL franchises often use humour and memes to engage fans, the use of images without permission can create unnecessary controversy.

In my opinion, Rajasthan Royals probably removed the post as a precautionary step after the backlash and legal discussions online.

It is important to note that the viral content may entertain fans, but it can also raise questions about personality rights and responsible social media usage.
