A claim by IPL commentator Tanay Tiwari has gone viral, where he can be seen saying that Yuzvendra Chahal told him that he had seen legendary Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni crying in the bathroom after allegedly losing a game to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
This video, shared on a podcast on YouTube, has gathered lots of views, and lots of reactions have come on social media as well. MS Dhoni’s fandom has no bounds given that he has captained the Indian team to a T20 World Cup, a Champions Trophy, and a Cricket World Cup win.
In addition to that, MS Dhoni has also won the IPL five times for the Chennai Super Kings and a couple of Champions League T20 titles as well.
RCB and CSK play an all-time classic in IPL 2024 on May 18
Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings had faced off in a tight encounter on May 18 in Bengaluru. The winner would’ve qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs, and hence the match had lots of value.
RCB posted 218/5 in 20 overs, with Faf du Plessis scoring 54, Virat Kohli making 47, Rajat Patidar making 41, and Cameron Green scoring 38*. In response, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Daryl Mitchell got out for cheap, while Rachin Ravindra made 61 runs.

CSK seemed in control of the chase, with Ajinkya Rahane making 33 and Dhoni making 25, while Ravindra Jadeja scored 42*. However, some brilliant fielding and amazing death-over bowling restricted CSK to 191/7, and RCB won the game by 27 runs to qualify for the playoffs and knock Chennai Super Kings out.
Talking about the game, IPL presenter Tanay Tiwari, on the Ranveer Show podcast, revealed that he had seen MS Dhoni seething with rage, as CSK should’ve won that game. He allegedly also said that Yuzvendra Chahal told him that Dhoni cried in the bathroom, a social media user claimed.

However, several eagle-eyed social media users called out the false claims of MS Dhoni crying after CSK’s loss to RCB on May 18 in IPL 2024. In fact, the claim is that Tanay Tiwari was told by Yuvendra Chahal that Dhoni cried.
The reality is that Tanay Tiwari had revealed that he came to know that Yuzvendra Chahal had told him that Dhoni had cried in the bathroom after he had gotten run out in the ICC World Cup 2019 semi-final between India and New Zealand. We at CREX can confirm, that the video circulating about MS Dhoni crying after losing to RCB is fake and altered.
India had lost the close semi-final to New Zealand, and Dhoni had scored a fifty before a direct hit from Martin Guptill ended his innings and India’s chances to play in the finals.
MS Dhoni and IPL 2026
That ICC World Cup 2019 game proved to be Dhoni’s final game for the Indian team, as he announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020. He has carried on in the Indian Premier League, winning the IPL in 2018, 2021, and 2023 for CSK. He gave up CSK’s captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad after the IPL 2023 win.
However, IPL 2026 proved to be the first season where Dhoni didn’t play a single game for CSK, as he couldn’t recover in time from a calf injury and then also suffered a finger injury. It remains to be seen whether Dhoni will continue playing for CSK in IPL 2027.
