India star Virat Kohli is currently focused on his performance in IPL 2026, and at the same time, a major legal setback has brought him into the spotlight. The issue is related to the One8 Commune restaurant in Bengaluru, which has now been shut down following a court order.
This decision came after rent dues reportedly crossed ₹2 crore, and therefore, the situation has drawn significant attention.
To understand the situation clearly, it is important to note that Virat Kohli had already separated himself from this particular outlet earlier, as reported by India Today. Notably, he had removed his brand name from the Bengaluru branch, which is located near the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
What is the reason behind the closure?
The closure of the Bengaluru outlet followed a legal process. The restaurant was operated by Trio Hills Hospitality, and it had not paid rent for nearly six months. Along with rent, there were also pending maintenance charges and revenue share payments. As a result, the building owner approached the city civil court.
Following this, the court ordered the restaurant to shut down until all outstanding dues are cleared. In addition, the outlet had received multiple notices from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike for not following certain rules. At the same time, a decline in customer visits led to financial losses, which further worsened the situation.
The Bengaluru outlet had been facing legal challenges for some time. For example, in June last year, a case was filed under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act since the restaurant did not have a designated smoking area.

In addition, the civic authorities had earlier issued notices stating that the outlet was operating without required approvals. These included the absence of a No Objection Certificate from the Fire Department. Furthermore, another case was registered against the restaurant and other establishments on MG Road for operating beyond permitted hours.
The Bengaluru branch had opened in December 2023, and since then, it had encountered several operational and legal difficulties.
One8 Commune's journey
The One8 Commune journey began in 2017 in Delhi’s Aerocity, and over time, it expanded into a large hospitality chain worth around ₹112 crore. At present, the brand includes more than 15 outlets across different cities in India.
Even though the Bengaluru outlet is no longer linked to Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain continues to be associated with other branches in cities such as Delhi, Gurugram, Pune, Kolkata, Noida, and Hyderabad.
Virat Kohli remains active in business world
It is also worth mentioning that Virat Kohli continues to remain active in the business world. He has invested in and owns several well-known brands such as Blue Tribe, Rage Coffee, One8, Hyperice, Chisel Fitness, WROGN, and FC Goa. Through these ventures, he has built a strong financial position, with his net worth estimated to be more than ₹1,000 crore.
Meanwhile, on the cricket field, Virat Kohli is in strong form during IPL 2026. Notably, the Indian star is currently placed fourth in the Orange Cap race. So far, he has scored 247 runs in 6 innings, and his strike rate stands at an impressive 157.
