Former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh shocked the world when he recently revealed that he received no clarity from the selectors and team management about his future during the final phase of his international career.
Following the revelation, fans and critics have come out in support of Yuvraj. A renowned former Indian cricketer, who made a big name in domestic cricket, also backed the all-rounder on social media.
Wasim Jaffer defends Yuvraj Singh
In an interview with Sports Tak, Yuvraj Singh said that during the last couple of years of his playing career, he didn’t receive clarity from selectors, and there was no communication from the captain or coach about his future.
He added that he was left confused about his future, especially around age 36-37. Not only that, Yuvraj claimed other legends like Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, and Harbhajan Singh faced similar situations.
After this bombshell revelation, former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer came out in support of Yuvraj Singh. In a social media message, he criticised the system, saying if a big player like Yuvraj says he wasn’t communicated with, that’s not right.
Jaffer added that even if decisions are tough, players deserve honest communication.
"Earlier players used to find out in newspapers if their career is over or not, although things have gotten better in terms of communication still if a big player like @YUVSTRONG12 who’s won India two WC says he wasn’t communicated then that’s not right," Jaffer said in his tweet.

Yuvraj later turned to MS Dhoni
After zero communication from the selectors, captain Virat Kohli and coach Ravi Shastri, it was MS Dhoni who finally gave Yuvraj Singh an honest picture.
Yuvraj revealed that he personally called Dhoni to understand his future. Dhoni spoke frankly and realistically, and that conversation gave him the clarity he was missing.
MS Dhoni indicated that Yuvraj Singh was not in India’s plans for the 2019 World Cup, and his fitness concerns were a major factor. Essentially, Dhoni helped Yuvraj understand that it was time to move on.
After careful consideration, Yuvraj accepted reality and eventually decided to retire from international cricket in 2019.
Yuvraj Singh reveals why he stayed away from commentary
After international retirement in 2019, Yuvraj Singh revealed that the main reason he has stayed away from commentary is personal. He said he doesn’t want to sit alongside people who made personal remarks about him.
This matters because many ex-cricketers like Irfan Pathan or Sunil Gavaskar moved into commentary after retirement. But Yuvraj Singh choosing not to follow the same path is unusual.
His statement, however, exposes the toxic side of cricket media and how players remember personal criticism even after retirement.
Regardless, Yuvraj Singh hasn’t moved away from cricket completely. He groomed the next generation as he personally trained young talents like Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill in the past.
This way, Singh stays in touch with the sport and also helps Indian cricket from an unofficial and personal capacity.
