Dewald Brevis hit a monstrous knock to take the Capitals to SA20 Final
Dewald Brevis was sensational with the bat. After Sunrisers Eastern Cape posted 170 runs while batting first, built around Jonny Bairstow’s 50 and Jordan Hermann’s 41, the Pretoria Capitals’ chase got off to a shaky start. Shai Hope was dismissed in the second over, leaving Pretoria reeling at 15 for 1.
Connor Esterhuizen contributed 22 runs but was dismissed in the 7.5th over. That was when Dewald Brevis walked in and unleashed a storm, scoring 75 runs at a strike rate of 197.37. He brought up his half-century off just 30 deliveries, hitting four boundaries and seven sixes.
The final overs were made to look easy, with Pretoria needing 18 runs off the last 12 balls. Lewis Gregory bore the brunt as Brevis took strike and smashed three consecutive sixes to finish the game in quick time.
Brevis held firm till the end, guiding Pretoria Capitals to victory with 1.3 overs to spare as they won the match by seven wickets and secured their place in the SA20 2026 finals. With this win, Pretoria Capitals have sealed a spot in the Finals and now stand as one of the maiden contenders for the title this season.
Good signs for South Africa ahead of T20 World Cup 2026
Dewald Brevis hitting top form just weeks ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 is a positive sign for South Africa, especially with several key batters currently sidelined.
Donovan Ferreira, Tony de Zorzi, and David Miller are all nursing injuries ahead of the marquee tournament. Brevis’ return to form is welcome news, as South Africa will be banking on the young prodigy to strengthen their campaign in India and Sri Lanka.
Brevis in prolific form
Brevis has enjoyed a prolific run in recent matches. In SA20 2026, he has averaged 33.63, scoring 269 runs at a strike rate of 148.62 from 10 matches.
His scores of 36, 34, 53, and 75 have all come while batting in the middle order, a role in which South Africa will rely on him to provide power-hitting if there is any shortfall at the top of the order.
Dewald Brevis has also good numbers at No. 4 in T20I cricket. He boasts an average of 28.45 while striking at an impressive rate of 166.49 in that position. However, there have been occasions when he has been required to bat at number five for South Africa, where he scored 90 runs from five matches at a blistering strike rate of 191.49.
