On Thursday, January 22, the Sydney Sixers dealt a blow as Babar Azam flew back to Pakistan ahead of BBL qualifier 2. The Sixers confirmed Babar’s departure and stated that the PCB wanted their star player to return home to begin preparation for the T20 World Cup.
“Babar Azam has been recalled to join Pakistan’s national camp ahead of upcoming international fixtures. He will be unavailable for the remainder of the BBL|15 Finals Series,” read a post by the Sydney Sixers social media accounts to announce Babar’s departure.
Notably, Pakistan have a T20I series coming up against Australia and Babar has been recalled to prepare for the international tour. Meanwhile, the Sixers, on the other hand, have a key game left in the BBL. The Moises Henriques-led side will lock horns against the Hobart Hurricanes for the second qualifiers and Babar’s absence will be a huge loss for the Men in Pink.
Babar was supposed to play the entire BBL, but PCB recently confirmed the Australia series, which is why the right-handed batter has left the league mid-way. For the unversed, Babar Azam played 11 games and amassed just 202 runs, averaging 22.44. Further, Babar Azam struggled with the strike-rate of just 103.06.
