Chennai Super Kings have had a disastrous IPL campaign over the last three editions of the tournament. After securing their 2023 title under MS Dhoni, the Yellow Army have mostly been found at the bottom of the table, with a disappointing exit in IPL 2026 as well.
Now, after three years of continuous disappointment, the franchise is looking forward to a massive transition, with major trade plans in the pipeline.
With Hardik Pandya and another Mumbai Indians all-rounder, Will Jacks, as their primary trade targets, the Chennai Super Kings franchise has now taken another step that indicates a huge change in the squad composition ahead of the retentions, releases, and trade decision-making day.
CSK arrange special fitness camp for players ahead of IPL 2027 trade decisions
As per renowned RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan, Chennai Super Kings are set to conduct a fitness camp to assess the fitness and eligibility of all players in the squad.
Notably, all CSK players have been called up for the two-to-three-day fitness camp, with the timing also appearing suspicious since the final decisions on retentions, releases, and trades are set to be made in the first week of August.
The fitness camp arranged by CSK will effectively assess and screen players who are at their absolute best to perform. Senior players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Khaleel Ahmed, and Mukesh Choudhary, among others, will be on the radar.
It is also noteworthy that no overseas players will be present at the camp, with only Indian and domestic players expected to attend. Whether MS Dhoni will be present at the fitness camp is yet to be confirmed.

What trade decisions might emerge from the camp?
However, judging by the circumstances, the camp is likely to serve as a meeting between all the players to assess who is fit to play and who could be traded to Mumbai Indians in exchange for Hardik Pandya and Will Jacks.
Notably, from the CSK camp, Mumbai Indians are eyeing all-rounder Shivam Dube and explosive batter Dewald Brevis.
If CSK trade Dube and Brevis for Hardik Pandya and Will Jacks, the franchise would be willing to let go of these two prized assets, as Hardik Pandya, despite having poor recent IPL seasons, remains one of the best all-rounders in the league.
Will Jacks could also prove useful for CSK, as he is a floater who can bat anywhere in the order while also providing four overs of spin if required. Hence, the fitness camp might also include discussions on whether the proposed Hardik Pandya–Will Jacks trade would benefit the team and improve the overall squad composition.
What to expect from the CSK fitness camp?
Moreover, the fitness camp just ahead of the major decision days will set the tone of the trade environment in the camp. Other than being just a fitness test of players, it will also act as a special player-filtering strategy for the franchise ahead of IPL 2027.
Hence, this camp provides a crucial opportunity for the CSK management to assess each player's health, form, and readiness for the upcoming season. By doing so, the franchise aims to ensure only the most capable and in-form players are retained, setting a strong foundation for the future of the team.
