BBL franchises have locked in a host of cricketers in their squads for the next edition of the tournament later this year. As part of the league’s ‘Deadline Day’, all eight sides were required to sign up to 10 players until early Tuesday evening, i.e., before the player movement window.

Under the ‘Deadline Day’ regulations, clubs will not be able to re-sign or extend the contract of an existing cricketer during the period. However, the franchises could either sign an eligible “free agent”, trade players between them.

It is worth noting that in BBL terms, a “free agent” is a player who is not contracted to any club and is therefore free to be signed by any franchise during the player movement window. In short, such players are essentially cricketers who are currently without a BBL contract, including those not retained by their respective franchises after the conclusion of the BBL 2025-26 season.

Full list of Deadline Day signings

Legendary Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was one of the biggest star attractions of the BBL’s ‘Deadline Day’ signings. While he was reportedly approached by Sydney Thunder, Maxwell eventually re-signed a two-year deal with Melbourne Stars.

Sydney Thunder opener Matthew Gilkes also decided to extend his stay with the club for at least another two BBL seasons. Here is a look at the complete list of all BBL Deadline Day signings:

  • Sydney Thunder - Matthew Gilkes (two-year extension)
  • Melbourne Stars - Glenn Maxwell (two-year extension)
