Bangladesh's young pace sensation Ripon Mondol has been called up for his maiden T20I stint for his country. Ripon was named in the Bangladesh T20I squad against New Zealand on Tuesday, with the 23-year-old previously representing the country in the Asian Games.

However, this time will be his maiden stint when he will be wearing the official national jersey. Sidelining the celebration of being featured in the national jersey, Ripon Mondol has made a surprising yet humble request where he wants the fans to criticize him when he performs poorly and likewise praise him when he does well.

Ripon’s Rise To The National Cricket team

Ripon Mondol's recent form has been extraordinary with the ball, something which has been a consistent phenomenon since the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025.

This prospect of performing well and consistently helped Ripon get his maiden national call-up. In the Rising Stars, Ripon picked 11 wickets from his five innings while bowling at an economy rate of 6.75. Soon after the tournament ended, Ripon had to go for his Rajshahi Warriors stint for the Bangladesh Premier League 2025-26.

There too, he performed extraordinarily well, scalping 17 wickets from his eight innings at an economy rate of 8.54. He also had two four-wicket hauls and one three-wicket haul in that process, being one of the highest wicket-takers for his franchise.

Although his recent exploits in the Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 weren't as impressive, his consistency with the ball caught the eye of the selectors, as shared by BCB official Habibul Bashar Sumon.

Ripon Mondol Asks For Open Criticism On His Performance

Despite this young energy on the field, Mondol has shown a humble and down-to-earth attitude while sharing a photo of his smiling child on Facebook.

On his official Facebook handle, he wrote, “The smile on my child's face says everything about how special this day is for me and my family. I want to see this happiness on their faces for as long as I play cricket. May Allah give me the strength to do that. Amen.”

After that, he addressed the fans directly by asking them to openly criticize him for his poor performances, just like how fans and friends help him and appreciate him during his success.

“I’ve said this before, and I want to say it again today—when you praise me, it motivates me and makes me happy. When you criticize me, I understand that something is not right. That pushes me to work harder and improve myself. Whatever I am today, whatever I have achieved, it’s because of you. Alhamdulillah,” Ripon wrote.

Ripon Shares Heartfelt Message

Calling his fans as his family, Ripon ended with a heartfelt note, happily lauding the opportunity he got to play for Bangladesh.

“Today I want to say this - just like you praise me when I do well, please criticize me when I don’t. But let it be fair criticism, the kind that helps me understand my mistakes and guides me on how to improve,” Ripon Mondol added.

The Bengal Tigers will start the T20I leg with New Zealand from April 27. The three-match T20I series will be played on April 29 and May 2, with the first two T20Is being played at Chattogram and the concluding one to be played at Mirpur, Dhaka.

As of now, the hosts are at a thrilling edge in the ODI series where the series stands at a 1-1 level, with the series decider to be played on April 23 at Chattogram.
