Babar Azam Breaks Silence On Match Fixing Inquiry By PCB, His Involvement In Player Axing

On Tuesday, September 8, Pakistan captain Babar Azam addressed the press on the eve of 3rd and final Test against England. It was a turbulent week for Pakistan, full of action. Seven players were sent home, head coach got sacked, and the PCB started an internal inquiry for disciplinary breach.

Babar Azam addressed the media knowing what was about to come his way. The Pakistani media beat around the bush, but as soon as English reporter was presented the chance to ask the question, he went direct and asked the Pakistan captain about match-fixing inquiry by the PCB and his involvement in sending the players back home.

Babar Azam Denies Role In Sending 7 Pakistani players back home

Babar Azam finally broke his silence on the matter and rejected any involvement in PCB's latest actions. The 31-year-old stated that it was a news for him as well and he was not consulted by the PCB before sending the likes of Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan, and Salman Ali Agha back home.

Further, Babar also expressed that he has no clue about the ongoing match-fixing inquiry initiated by the PCB.  Here is how the conversation went.

Babar Azam Responds To Allegations

Q - It’s been a turbulent week, with seven players & the head coach sent home. How difficult was it for you?

A. Babar Azam said, "Not difficult, but surprising." 

Q - PCB said it has launched a disciplinary inquiry. Do you know what that’s about?

Babar Azam said, "No, I have no idea." 

Q - You weren’t involved in any of those decisions, including sending the players home?

Babar Azam said, "No."

PCB Breaks Silence On Lord's Fiasco

On Monday, September  7, the PCB broke their silence on the Lord's fiasco and phone confiscation saga. Amir Mir, Advisor to the Chairman, Director Media & Digital Communications of PCB, posted a tweet, confirming that the board has started an internal disciplinary inquiry. 

"The Pakistan Cricket Board has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally. The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration."

Babar Azam Backs PCB's Move To Send Players Back Home

In the same presser, Babar Azam was also asked about the PCB's decision to send players back home and his opinion on that. The right-handed batter chose the diplomatic route and told the reporters that it would be best for them to ask PCB about this.

However, Babar did back the Mohsin Naqvi-led board and remarked, 'If the board has taken a decision, then there must have been a thought behind it'.
