Andre Russell has time and again proved his mettle as a T20 maverick. Although he has retired from international cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL), the explosive all-rounder is still going strong in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL 2026).
After ending his four-season-long association with the Trinbago Knight Riders, the Jamaican has switched his base to the Jamaica Kingsmen. After playing just two games for the franchise, Russell has achieved a feat that no other player in the league’s history has ever done.
Andre Russell enters elite CPL club with 2000 runs, 100 wickets
Ageing like a fine wine, the explosive Andre Russell is still contributing in both facets of the game at the age of 38 years.
In the CPL 2026 clash between Jamaica Kingsmen and Barbados Royals, the gung-ho all-rounder became the first player in the history of the league to complete the double of 2000 runs and 100 wickets.
Russell, who completed 100 CPL wickets in the previous outing, bagged a solitary wicket vs Barbados as he bowled an expensive spell. However, Dre Russ redeemed himself in the chase, keeping the opposition bowlers at bay.
In the chase of 207 runs, the dashing all-rounder scored a mouth-watering 68 runs off 38 balls, but went down on the antepenultimate ball of the game, as the Jamaica Kingsmen lost by a margin of five runs.

Nevertheless, Russell is also the only player to achieve the double of 2000 runs and 100 wickets in both IPL and CPL.
How are Jamaica Kingsmen faring in CPL 2026?
The Rovman Powell-led Jamaica Kingsmen came extremely close to bagging their first victory of the season, thanks to Andre Russell's wonderful power-hitting. However, destiny had other plans for the Kingsmen.
They have played two games so far in the CPL 2026, and unfortunately for them, both the games went down to the wire, but they lost both.
In the curtain-raiser against Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, the Kingsmen were able to post a respectable total of 167/7 on the board. With the ball, Keemo Paul (3/29) and Russell (2 for 34) helped the team put up a fight, but the opposition sneaked a last-ball finish by just two wickets.
That said, the Jamaica Kingsmen can easily turn the tables around as they have eight more games to go in the league stage.
How can coach Andre Russell help KKR in IPL 2027?
Although the Jamaica Kingsmen have lost both their matches in CPL 2026, there have been performers who would have impressed KKR's power coach, Andre Russell, who might be looking at budding talents ahead of the IPL 2027.
The 19-year-old Vitel Lawes, a left-arm leg-spinner, has shown he knows how to outfox batters, and he is also a great pinch-hitter, as was evident during his 20-ball 32 blitz vs Barbados.
Apart from Lawes, Keemo Paul has also been impressive as a third-change bowler. Moreover, he has already played in the IPL in the past.
After Russell's retirement, KKR are still struggling to find a like-for-like replacement for the veteran all-rounder, which is why they are reportedly pushing to trade Hardik Pandya from MI.
