Source- XIn a major development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have added another legendary face to solidify their preparations for the next Indian Premier League (IPL 2027) season, after finishing in the antipenultimate spot last season.Earlier this year, the five-time champions named the legendary left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan as their head coach. Adding another Indian bowler to the CSK backroom staff, they have brought a familiar face back home. Mohit will replace Eric Simons, who has had multiple stints with the franchise since early 2010. The 38-year-old seamer, who retired from all forms of the game last December, played at both India and Chennai under MS Dhoni's captaincy. Moreover, he had a massive success during the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, where MSD used the right-arm bowler brilliantly as a first-change seamer. "It is reliably learnt that discussions are underway between the two parties and barring a late change of heart, a formal announcement is likely soon," it added.Mohit Sharma's IPL careerAlthough Mohit Sharma has no prior coaching experience, he was an active IPL player until a few years ago. An IPL veteran, he played 120 matches in the lucrative league, featuring for CSK for four seasons. The right-armer began his IPL career with Chennai, where he played three seasons and took 57 wickets at an average of 22.1. But when the franchise faced a two-year ban, Mohit had to switch his base to Punjab before returning for IPL 2019. Notably, he was a part of the Champions League-winning Chennai team in 2014/15. Interestingly, one of the finest moments in Mohit’s IPL career came against CSK in IPL 2023, when he was against Ravindra Jadeja in the big final, but let the game slip away on the last two balls of the game, when the all-rounder finished with a maximum and a boundary.Nevertheless, the 38-year-old ended his career in DC colours in 2025, taking 134 wickets in the league.CSK looking to revamp whole coaching staffAs Zaheer Khan and Mohit Sharma have succeeded Stephen Fleming and Eric Simons, respectively, this marks the start of a new era for the five-time champions. However, Michael Hussey is said to continue as the batting coach, but there is a quite a buzz regarding Suresh Raina’s return in CSK’s yellow. Meanwhile, the backroom staff needed a rejig for the five-time champions, who haven't qualified for the IPL playoffs since winning their last trophy in 2023.
