The former India off-spinner is set to get a stand named after him at the iconic M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.A report by Venkata Krishna of the Indian Express said that R Ashwin, alongside two other Indian legends, will be honoured by the TNCA with A stand at the Chepauk stadium.S Venkataraghavan, K Srikkanth To Be Honoured Alongside R AshwinThe report added that alongside R Ashwin, former India greats S Venkataraghavan and K Srikkanth will also be honoured by the state association. The ceremony will be held in the presence of all three cricketers together before the historic BBL match in Chennai.For the unversed, BBL is coming to India, and the Chepauk stadium will host the inuagural match of Australia’s premier T20 league for the 2027 edition. The TNCA is planning a similar ceremony as to how the MCA organised it for Rohit Sharma, while naming his stand at the Wankhede Stadium.Venkata Krishna B @venkatatweets In all likelihood by the Big Bash three stands at the MA Chidambaram Stadium will have stands named after S Venkataraghavan, K Srikkanth and R Ashwin. Why Is TNCA Honouring R Ashwin, S Venkataraghavan, and K Srikkanth?The above three star players have represented Tamil Nadu and went on to do really well for the Indian team. S Venkataraghavan played for Madras from 1963 to 1985. He represented India from 1965 to 1983, the third-longest Test career for an Indian. The 66-year-old revolutionised the game in the early 80s with his explosive batting. The right-handed batter won the 1983 World Cup with India and played for India from 1981 to 1992.Srikanth played 43 Tests and 146 ODIs for India, amassing over 6000 international runs. Srikanth was also associated with India’s 2nd ODI World Cup. He served as India’s chief selector during the 2011 ODI World Cup when India lifted the prestigious cup after 28 years.Further, R Ashwin also made the state association proud with his heroics with Team India. The right-arm spinner has 537 wickets, the second-most by an Indian in Test cricket.R Ashwin Joins Long List Of Cricketers With Stand Named After ThemNotably, R Ashwin joins the long list of Indian cricketers who have been honoured with a stand named after him. At present, there are 17 Indian cricketers including the likes of Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Sunil Gavaskar to have a stand or pavilion named after him.It will be for the first time in history that a stand will be named after cricketers at the Chidambaram Stadium.
